Post subject: | Best Tires |
It goes without saying that the Wranglers STs that come on our KJs are absolutely miserable. They have all the traction of a drunken woman in high heels, on a freshly polished floor; they only good news is that that because they are the cheep OEM version of the ST we are only stuck with them for a short time. Mine lasted 20K before they were worn down to the wear bar. I have found that the absolute best tires available for the non-lifted KJ are the Goodyear Fortera Silent Amour .This is just my opinion, but they are great for highway/ road driving (cuts down on road noise dramatically), and are acceptable off road (plus if you live in the north like me, they get great winter traction). I think they are the largest size you can get on a non lifted KJ. What do you all think, and what are you running on your KJ? http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... rangler+ST VS http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... ilentArmor http://www.goodyearfortera.com/goodyear ... /index.jsp |

I have hear great things about them but the only thing that is keeping me away is the price. I was also considering the Wrangle Silent Armour for a little more traction and aggressive look, any experience with these? |

I'm a bfg ko man myself, I've been using them for years on my 4x4's and really like them. However there not the cheapest tires out there. My buddy runs the cooper discoveries, they are also impressive, but thier not cheap either. |

I think my set will be the Goodyear Wrangler SilentArmor. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Wrangler+SilentArmor&vehicleSearch=false&partnum=37TR6WSAOWL&fromCompare1=yes&place=0&speed_rating=T |

I have heard good things about the Wrangler SilentArmors, i havent bought them, but i know some people who have. The reasons i choose the Forteras are 1) the guy at Discount talked me into them, and 2) He gave me 200$ off. Im fairly sure that both these tires are good, depends on what you want. Sure that anything you get will be better then OEM. |

The Coopers werent too bad, $420 for 4 out the door. Seem to be holding up well too. I want to get the Wranglers but dont like the price, also considering General Grabber AT2 also. BFG's are nice but too expensive for me. Tires that I'm currently looking at: Cooper ST's (or stick with the same ATR's) Wrangle Silent Armour General Grabber AT2 BFG AT I can never chose and it's always a process when it comes to selecting a tire for me. Plus I dont wheel other than very light stuff and messing around in snow or rain so I dont need anything to intense. That and price kind of drops BFG's for me even though I would like them. |

As for the silent armors - LONGARM had a set - he liked the tires - just not the CRD. Also - how about the Brigstone Dueler Revo's - love mine. |

We sell Cooper where I work, and I got mine (265/75/16)at cost at 83.00 a piece. The ATR's on my liberty have the agression of an MT offroad, and could'nt be any smoother and quieter on the road.Since I have the equiptment to do them myself, mine where 332.00 plus stems, out the door.I did'nt think any tire that looked this agressive could be soooooo good. I use BFG ATs for on road driving and just recently picked up a set of MOABs with Wrangler MTRs. I use the MTRs when I go off roading. |

All the reviews I've read for them have been good it seems, both for capability and wear. I have the 17" wheels, and the stock size is very limited for choice, but I think I may upgrade to a 245/65/17 to get the Wrangler Silent Armors, but the $140+ price per tire has me thinking twice. I know there are other descent tires for cheaper, but their ratings and reviews seem to be great. I hope they're worth the price. |

I found some at "Tire Savings.com" for 98.00 a piece.Thats still less than 400.00 for 4, before tax and shipping. So I saved 15.00 per tire, and shipping charges.I thought our mark up would be more than that. Ron |

You got my curiousity up so I called GY last night, $145 per tire is the price I got for the Silent Armours which is too rich for my blood (close to $800 for 5) Also called for the Coopers to replace my spare (only got 4 last time), got a price of $104 which isnt bad. Going to check Benny's too, they carry them and are having a sale with free mounting included. I posted on here before about the life span of a spare tire but didnt really get an answer, so instead of chancing it I will probably replace it. Never touched the ground but is the original from 2002. |

I got 17" rims. I am also on the same boad, with the new tires and was considering Pirellis but after read about flat spots I decided not to, plus the reviews on the tirerack did not report high mileage yet. So I decided to wait a bit more, and in the meantime I am considering Fortera Silent Armors (stock on commanders) or Fortera Tripletread, these two come in 17", however as another choise there is Wrangler Silent Armors, which has more aggressive tread pattern, and might grab well as opposed to fortera version, however does not come in 235/, but comes in 245. I did some comparison among these. ![]() Oh, and difference of $30-$40 a piece is not a big deal. You will be riding on them for the next 50k miles, possibly more, so unless it is a great deal, I don't think I would mind paying a bit more for more reliable tires, if they are. Pirellis: ![]() look at the mileage reported on A/Ts!! ![]() |

I dont know, it's a little out of my range. My Cooper's last for the 50,000 also and if they continue to hold up like they have been it should be well past that for half the price. Believe me, if I could drop $800 without a problem then I would probably get them. I like searching out deals and getting the most bang for my buck! Plus, honestly I think a majority of that price is paying for the GY name, not advanced technology. IMHO |
