I just got an alignment 6 months ago, and now my brandy new tires are wearing unevenly. Looks like it's time for another alignment. The stealership wants $85 to do it, and a little shop I called quoted me $90. Is that a reasonable price?

Update: Sears will do it on the cheap, but they say that they can only adjust toe - is camber or caster adjustable? I think my tire wear is textbook camber wear, so I'm a little worried that an alignment won't help me.

Looks like the sears in Burlington will do it for $65....sweeet.

Now, I mentioned to them on the phone that it's a modified jeep. They looked it up and found that the jeep liberty only has an adjustment for toe, nothing for camber or caster.

Now seeing as the wear I'm seeing is camber wear, am I SOL?

Looks like I found my answer in section 2-3 of the factory service manual. The section "Suspension - Wheel Alignment"

All three are adjustable, or so it seems

Caster and camber can be adjusted by the bolts that hold the a- arm - camber is a problem on a lifted Liberty that doesn't have Al's a-arms - without them the upper is too short and they can't adjust to center of spec - although a good tech can normally get to the edge of the spec.
And I paid 150 for 3 years of alignments at NTB

Just paid 49.95 with tax and all three were adjusted some, so yes they can be adjusted, keep calling around till you find a good local shop to do it for you. The big stores only want to work on simple things, in/out fast, charge a lot of money, if there is any time or thought that they must do, then they cant do it. Its like when you go in some where and ask for tires you ask for a certain size, their first question is what type of vehicle, and then proceed to tell you that according to the computer it says that wont work  stupid parts replacers

I think sears is my new favorite shop. They have a warranty on their alignment (so if it pops back out of alignment they will re-align it).

Their measurements of tire wear on my NEW MT/Rs:

outside-middle-inside
LF RF LR RR

8-10-13
10-11-15
18-18-18
18-18-18

(as in, my front tires are toast)

Get this. These are the "Before" measurements:

Camber: -0.6, -1.0
Caster: 2.5, 2.6
Toe: 1.29 1.38

According to the specs for the jeep, only the left camber was in spec, everything else was out to lunch.

The After:

-0.4 -0.5
3.7 3.5
0.11 0.11

The Toe is what ruined your tires...way too high at 1.29,1.38...you were probably feathering the outside edges pretty good

That's great info. It's about the exact same that mine was. I lifted the KJ a while back...when was that...some time last year. I wanted to let it settle before I aligned and then...well, I just left it there. I was on the stocker Junkyears anyway, so who cared right?

You should have seen the outside edges of those tires! There was nothing left.

There was one shop that wanted to charge me $90 for an alignment. After chatting with them for a while, I finally got them to admit to the fact that they thought the Liberty required a 4-tire alignment. Pathetic. Ended up getting it done for $50 with a one-year warranty. Works for me.

Looks like the stealership is going to refund my alignment cost. They also said that they would sell me another pair of the MT/Rs "At Cost" which they quoted to be $220 each.

I declined their offer but asked if they would be willing to mount+balance my spare MT/R for me instead. I'm going to put the back gate MT/R on the front along with a fresh one from my basement and just leave one of the worn ones as my spare. It's a shame that it happened to my nice new tires, but I'm glad it didn't happen to a $220 tire!

$220 at cost  .Good lord are they quoting you for 37's? You can get 245 MT/R's off tire rack for $117 apiece.

That's what I told them. But take a look at tire rack - they don't seem to carry the blackwalls anymore and the cheapest MT/R they have in a 245/75R16 is $178 (but that is still cheaper than the $220, even WITH shipping)
