Post subject:  How much rub?

I've been full of questions lately, but thats how you learn. Things are different on this kj than any jeep I've owned before. lets say with the rusty's 2.5 suspension lift and 245/75-16's, how bad is the rub? I just read on kj country where a guy said that it only rubs in reverse at full lock. I heard you guys talk about pounding down your pinch welds (whatever that is), but is the rubbing so bad that you have to, or is it just a little anoying? I don't really want to hack or pound away on this jeep as it's leased. We plan on buying it, but things can go wrong or change. I really like this jeep and it has everything the wife wanted down to the color and moon roof and everything I wanted except a manual tranny, but she wanted one vehicle in the driveway they she didn't have to shift. Well. I could of used the skid plate and tow hooks, but I can add those. Anyway, can you lift and run 245/75's without doing anything, or is trimming a must? My 02 wrangler with 31's and no lift on stock rims rubbed at full lock, but not enough to worry about, is it like that, or do you need to worry about it? 'Thanks"!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's possible that you could have the same experience on both Jeeps. It's also possible that you may have to modify something or add a little clevis lift to clear something. In the front of the fenderwell you can heatgun and push the plastic inner liner around a bit most times.

If I were you, I'd stick with the 245/70/R16 size. With the Rusty's and 245/70s, I gained a full 3" over stock with the crappy OEM Goodyears. Throw in two conduit nuts on the struts and you get almost 10" of clearance under the front skid.

Ok, but is the rub so severe that you have to trim, or is it just a little anoying like it was on my wrangler. My undersatanding is that I can run 245/70's with no lift, which is also an option untill I buy it out. It just seems that if only rubs at full lock in reverse, that it wouldn't be that big of deal. Thats what I'm trying to determine, how severe the rub is.

With my 245/75-16 Revos I had rubbing only at full lock. I didn't even think about pounding down my pinch welds until I got 245/75-16 BFG M/Ts and 1.25" spacers.

I decided to get rid of the rubbing with the Revos by trimming some plastic from the wheel well liner, but you wouldn't have to do that if you prefer to avoid full lock.

Okey doke, thats what I was wanting to here. I'll be running bfg AT ko's, not a full mud tire, so that should help some then. Thanks for the reply's.

Remember too that it will make a difference if you are changing your wheels too or just your tires. I put 245/75 Goodyear MT/R's on my stock wheels and the only rubbing I got was on the fog light doors, which you won't have to worry about with the redesigned bumper. But if you get other wheels with different backspacing, that will change the possible points of contact.

I have the lift listed below in my sig, with BFG KO 245/75/16's on Moab rims and get a good bit of rubbing on the front wheel well going forward and backwards when near full lock. It catches pretty good at full lock in reverse. I pounded down the pinch weld and am fine there. I think the backspacing on the Moab rims makes my tires rub where they do, eventhough I got a good 2.5" of lift. Also, even though the BFG KO's are not a mud tire, they have very square edges and a wide tread pattern.
