I'm sorry if this is a repost. You can tell by my post count I'm a newbie.

We were talking to one of the jeep people at the Houston Camp Jeep. Of course, she asked if we had a jeep and what kind, etc. After we bragged about how great Jake is ("Jake the Jeep" - as named by my wife) she raved about the Liberty also that it was her favorite model also.

Turns out she has a friend in engineering and according to him the Liberty will be discontinued after next year ('07 M.Y.?) and re-billed as a chysler product. Apparently, this was the plan all along, that the Liberty would be a short-run model. I found this surprising as the liberty seems to be the perfect between-Wrangler-and-Cherokee model. Not to mention, it's short wellbase is more suited to off-roading, as far as the SUV crowd goes.

It's disappointing. I was hoping that we would get a hardcore rubicon-esque Liberty soon and turns out, it's getting axed!

Anyone else hear anything like this?

Here is what I've heard in this article. It says the KJ will be made slightly larger in '07. However Jcreme, what you heard could still be true. Remember, the Dodge Nitro concept was based on the KJ frame and was slightly larger than the KJ itself.

I have a suspicion that DCX will continue to make both the KJ and Nitro in '07. DCX, like most in the auto industry, will cut costs by using the same platform more than once. A perfect example is the upcoming Caliber, Compass, and Patriot, all on the same platform. While not impossible, I doubt DCX would dump the KJ to run it as a Dodge. I would expect both a redesigned KJ and a new Dodge similar to the Nitro in '07

I was at the local Jeep dealer yesterday afternoon waiting for some minor work to be done and was looking at a 2005 KJ Limited in Inferno Red Crystal Pearl Coat.

I love my 05 Inferno Red Liberty! I would trade in a Sebring in a hearbeat! Why would they stop making them??? I see so many on the road..they sell a lot of them.

I believe that the Liberty will be made larger in '08 or '09 and will share a platform with whatever the Nitro becomes. I have just read some little blurbs here and there. It MAY change names, though...

A dirty Jeep is a happy Jeep

All rumors and speculation. I can't even count on how many Jeep rumors I have heard all from supposedly creditable sources. Hardly any actual pan out. Even if it is in the works to ax the KJ, plans always change 4-5 times before you actually see what happens.

Plus the Liberty sells so well, why would they ax it.

The nitro is pretty, I like the nitro ... BUT ... I love my KJ!
