Okay, I don't really intend on towing anything, but I want a hitch to be able to mount a hook to, and if anything one of the baskets that is good for 300#.

I was at murray's yesterday and they had a master lock brand (like the lockers at high school) class III hitch for sale for $125 or so... is this a good price?

Thanks for any advice.

The Mopar hitch is $150. Not sure about any others.

Keep in mind that if you're using it as a tow hook, even though you're not "towing" you're still putting a lot of stress on it, so it's probably not a good idea to get a junk one.

Just because it's mopar doesn't always make it the best, a lot of people have gotten rid of the mopar skid plates because they didn't do their intended job...

But in the same breath, I feel the same way over the hitch. For an additional $25 it would probably be ideal to go with the factory setup.

Oh I wasnt implying that the Mopar one is the best. Thats just the only one I knew the price of. Given the MasterLock's price being somewhat close to the Mopar one, I would assume thats it's decent at least and probably an ok one to go for. I would say that the advantage of getting the factory setup is knowing its gonna fit and everything, but thats just not true. Not true for skid plates anyway! I got 3 Mopar skid plates and only one fit with the existing holes on the Jeep...

Wow, talk about the convenience of a "factory fit"

I didn't realise that the mopar hitch was so *affordable*.

Time to sell some bike parts to finance another hobby of mine...

Keep in mind that hiches are rated for a reason
This is why MOST after market bumpers that have a hich come with a warning that says something like
"this hich is not rated for towing"

If it is sold as a class III hich then it was tested to a certain weight in a certain way just like one that cost $300 it passed the same test
so $100 or $1,000 they are both rated the same and you will probably pull the bolts out of the unibody befor you damage the hich
