I've been running the ac all winter using the defrost. When I turned the ac on the other day when it was hot out, it makes a sound like a loose marble for a second until the r's pick up. It makes the sound right when I give it a little gas, can't hear it any other time. It goes away when I turn the ac off. The sound comes from the back of the motor. I've got an apointment with the dealer the 30th, 7/70 so it wont cost me. |

Hmmm, perhaps some debris in the fan shroud? Could also be a bearing going bad. Both could explain why it stops in sudden acceleration (either engaging the "WOT AC bypass" or tossing the dirt back into the blade. Have you driven through any gravely areas in the past few days? I used to have to open up the cover on my integra about once every few months to remove leaves that got sucked in (sounds like blowing on waxed paper being held tight...) |

I don't think the A/C is covered under the 7/70,I believe that the 7/70 is drivetrain only. |

Could just be normal clutch noise. Mine makes some fairly crazy noises, but I dont use it all that often. I find that it takes way to much torque away and I need it for all the hills I drive up. I just do without. ![]() |

Thanks for the info, great stuff. No visable debris. I need to check for sticks thet might of got trail jammed. I have the extende warranty, (brain drift) so it is covered. Thanks for gettin me thinkin! It could be normal ac clutch noise, but its traveling to the back of the engine, I didn't get enough time to throughly look into it yet. I hope its just a stick......hah! yea right. |

I took the KJ in to the dealer. The ac chatter was caused from the Goodyear Gatorback surpintine belt I put on about three weeks ago. The mech told me that the belt was just a little to wide and or thick and was causing the noise. I bought a mopar belt, put it on when I got home and the noise was gone. I matched up the two belts and it looked like the gatoback belt was just a little thicker. I couldn't really see a difference in the width. I'm taking the belt back to Autozone and get my $ back, or will try! My dealer didn't even charge me for the mechs time, I guess it's because we have bought 3 Jeeps from them ![]() |
