I need you guy/gals to come up with some good arguments in favor of a lift...for the KJ, not the wife :D This is a family ride so that may make a difference.

I've got a 2 1/2" Frankenlift and it made both the ride and the handling better. Good enough reason? As far as getting your wife in after the lift, there's an optional Flying Goose attachment, but it may not be available in your area.

Being a little higher gives better visibility on the road. Add to that the side impact protection of the rock bars, and you are doing it for the safety of your family :wink: (oh, and yes, the ride is good too)

1. Regardless of lift, the ride has been improved.
2. If you get rails/bars/sliders (not the OEM's or tube steps), you will have more protection.
3. You will have better clearance in water, mud, snow...and that is for ON-road conditions also. Less risk of water getting inside and ruining the carpet.

Tell her it's a safety concern, if she is ever involved in an accident she is better protected by being up higher and there would also be less damage to your beloved Jeep. Also, if she was to ever loose control and slide off the road in bad weather, she would have a better chance of getting back on the road without having to call a tow truck. :roll: Hey, it might work!

You could also feed her ego by saying, she would get a lot of attention lifting her leg up to get in when she's in a dress or skirt. :lol:

Just don't let her do any research regarding increased risk of rollover with a 2.5+ lift.. You'll be just fine. You just show up one day lifted and say "doctor recommended that I lift the Jeep".

Because you're in FL you can't argue snow like I did. Main thing, though, was explaining to my wife that I won't do anything stupid or beyond the vehicle's capabilies while offroad. She knows trail damage is a possibility, but I minimize the risks by taking conservative lines and tackling obstacles that I know my vehicle can handle. For example, I don't mud-bog. I DON'T crawl 24" boulders -- simply because I haven't worked up the confidence through practice yet, but I'll get there. I don't go out alone, and I always wheel with people who are more experienced than me, so I can learn something about offroad driving each time. Not biting off more than you can chew can give you lots of credibility points and demonstrate your good judgment.

Have you tried the honest approach of explaining that having a Jeep 4x4 lets you get off the beaten path and enjoy nature? If you like fishing, perhaps you will use your 4x4 to more easily find better, but hard-to-reach fishing spots. To truly "get away from it all," you need some special modifications to enable you to get out there and --- most importantly -- to get back.

You're on your own if she asks about voiding the warranty. :(

I own Chevron stock and tell her the poorer fuel economy from the lift will help my cause. :D I wish I could put a lift on ours, but wife says no go! It is her DD so she has the last word.

I put the spaces on to help negate the center of gravity when I do lift. I figure 3" wider, but only 2.5" of lift. So the center is the same or better. Maybe!

I just took the Libby offroad with my wife and after having the front skid smacking rocks a half a dozen times, my wife said "we need to put a lift on this thing." I love my wife!

Just show her what it will look like.

All it took for my wife was to see it when I had it lifted up 2" one jack under the hitch and another under the front skid. She said, "That looks good!, when are you getting a lift for it?" I think I have all the armor I need now, so its time for a lift next.

Pretty much the same approach I took. It's our DD so she basically told me that if I'm going to be going out at all that it needed to be lifted 1st to avoid any unnecessary damage.

hahaha.. that's a good one. i'll keep it in mind... i think it could work well for you too!.. remember.. the doctor is always right... if there are any jeep jamboree's around.. say you need to do it for that.. they are great family events.. the kids (and wife) would love it!

I think the best thing to do is show her some before and after photos from this site. When I told my wife and her family I was lifting my KJ, I think they were all expecting some giant lift with 35" tires. They were all impressed with the results of my new lift and tires. When you see a KJ with a 2.5" lift and 245/75/16's, it does not really look high or overly lifted. To be honest, it just looks how a Jeep should look. I think the problem is that most people think of an extreme lift with huge tires when you talk about lifting. Show her how the KJ will look, and you should be fine. You can start with the pics from my Before/After thread HERE.

If that doesn't work just put on the lift and tires and act like you did nothing at all. Maybe she will not notice.

Just be careful you do not get the Flying Stork option by mistake..... :lol:

But my wife likes driving the LIB more now, as she can see over cars better.
