I'm new to 4-wheel drive. I read horror stories about breaking it sometimes. I was wondering about this situation:

Say I'm on a narrow trail in 4-WD. What if I need to turn around and the only way to do it is by backing up sharply, and inching forward, then backing up again, and inching forward, and about 5 more times until I finally have the room to straighten out.

Will this break something?

-------Just plain funny!!!------

Jeeps and offroading go hand in hand, and much of the terrain we wheel in is VERY dusty.

That said, has engineering ever considered installing a washable or replaceable air filter in the HVAC air plenum area as a few other 4x4 vehicles have? Of course this is a Liberty only question but it applies to all Jeeps as well.

I for one have a major problem Monday mornings when while wearing my suit and white shirt I turn the vent and fan on and a half-pound of dust from the weekend offroad trip blows out of the vents creating a cloud and coating of dirt on me and the interior.

-----This guy is a TJ owner. All I can say is "Should've bought a KJ!"-----

I don't know all that much about libby's but I have a generic question about them.

I realise that the libby was designed primarily as a light/crossover type of SUV and not really designed for much offroading, But how much testing is done on the liberty (and other jeep lines) for offroad capability vs the wrangler?

I read the last live discussion with you guys and understand the wrangler gets fairly extensive testing.

Is the libby tested to the same standards offroad? or is it just expected to be primarily an on road vehicle?

------Perhaps the engineers should have steered him to our forum------

Overall length is an important dimension for many reasons. Moving the spare tire under the vehicle allowed us to give the customer more rear seat leg room and cargo space, while maintaining nearly the same overall length.

------a lame reason to me. How does the tire being on the outside give more space inside? Some people say the length of the KJ is not measured by the spare tire sticking out So the spare on the back wouldn't affect overall length. 10" longer KK than KJ is not nearly the same overall length. The KK is now considered a Medium-sized SUV and no longer a compact SUV like the KJ.------

I personally liked these:

"Jeep Engineer"

The KJ is Trail Rated and has gone on many real world off road development / validation trips (Moab, Colorado, Paragon, Attica, Silver Lake Sand Dunes, Kentucky, etc.) in addition to our Proving Grounds events. We strive to maintain the Jeepness in our vehicles and will contine to do so.

"Jeep Engineer"

No unless you are at max throttle when you do this and fly off a cliff.

But seriously, if the trail is a hard packed surface you may feel some binding (crow hop) but you should not break anything during this type of manuver.

"The one and only MacAttack"

I have 600 miles on my new Liberty.
Can I go 90mph down the highway yet?

Good stuff...

I would like to know where they took the liberty in Kentucky during testing, I would of loved to go and watch the,. 8)
