ok, i will admit, i am set on getting a jeep. my father had a '87 cherokee and got over 260,000 miles on it. so i know they can last. over the years i have always...in the back of my mind...wanted one. now at age 35 i am ready to say..."ah heck" and get one. i had my mind set on a liberty, but last weekend went wheel'in with some froends who have wranglers, and wow...that was good clean fun, well maybe not clean. so i have been thinking about wranglers. pros & cons i am sure everyone struggles with is space. i currently have a subaru wagon and love the space, so the Liberty is the logical option, but...i sure did like the wheelin in the wrangles. i have lurked on this site for a while and have seen the paces that some have put on their Liberty, but all last weekend, i was wondering to myself whle i was wheel'in in the wranglers, could a liberty hold up to this? also in my research, i have noticed that wranglers seem to have a better resale value. i am just plain ol confused and i am sure some others out there have gone through the same delema. any thoughts or words of experience would be helpful. thanks, and i am having a blast looking around on the site. -travis ![]() |

if you have the money I would say look at the new 4dr wrangler they have room and space and its a badass jeep. Plus with a lift and some tires and you can go play with your friends out on the trail.... |

I love my liberty but I still have to agree with the comment above go test drive a new 4dr wrangler and thoughts of the liberty will quickly disappear. However if thats out of your price range I would compare a liberty with the older model wrangler unlimited 2dr. The aftermarket for the wranglers is HUGE where the liberty's is quite small so it is easier to mod the wrangler. However liberty's on average get better gas mileage and are quieter than wranglers but its all up to your preferences. But Jeeps are built not bought so Just Empty Every Pocket. ![]() |

For the most part the Liberty will satisfy most offroad needs but I would recommend getting a suspension lift. A well eqipped liberty will go anywhere a stock wrangler will go, it may not be as graceful but it will do it. One other nice thing about the Liberty is the Diesel option. The Liberty Diesels have tons of pulling power, will retain their resale value and get anywhere for 20-30 mpg. Wranglers and gas liberty's would be lucky to get 20 on the freeway. I have been happy with my Libby. |

I love my Liberty, but if your friends are riding on locked 35's, and you want to follow them, get a Wrangler. Otherwise, the Liberty, fully modified, can go pretty much anywhere a slightly modified Rubicon can go. The ride home is also more comfortable in the Liberty. My .02 |

Sounds like you have the wheeling bug. The Liberty is a nice light-wheeling truck, but not as good of a platform for heavy abuse on the rocks. IMHO if you're wanting a wheeling rig, you only have one option - the TJ or JK. (I hate the word Wrangler). I would not spend money on a unibody rig to heavily wheel it. They just don't hold up as well longterm. I've seen plenty of Cherokees and Grand Cherokees used up after a few seasons of hard wheeling, and plenty of CJs and YJs that are going strong after 20 or 30 years offroad. |
