I'm looking into replacing my OE airbox with a CAI. There's a sensor looking device that goes into the OE air tube at the base near the throttle body. What is it?

So what did you end up going with? You do realize that if the filter is in the engine compartment that it isn't as much of a CAI as the factory setup right? The factory intake is way more isolated from underhood heat than any "CAI" that I have seen for the KJ and the factory setup flows more air than a KJ can use.

Not real sure on the sensor.

You may be looking at an IATS, intake air temperature sensor.

I guess I need to be a little more detailed in what I am doing. I have a buddy of mine bending some alum. 3" tubing which will be used as an air tube, a"CAI" may be somthing different. I did order the EAAU3090 Amsoil filter yesterday(looking forward to those goodies JJsKJ) As for the sensor(IATS) just needed to know how important location was. I drilled a hole in the reducing coupler and sealed. It is still near the throttle body. As far as it's function, what will happen if it sensors too much hot air entering intake?
