OK, maybe it's just so simple there's no need for a write-up, but I can't find any information on how to remove and reinstall the rear bumper. Is it just too easy? (My trailer light connector got crushed in Moab--I'm considering cutting a hole through the plastic bumper and mounting my new connector there instead of below the bumper, where it can get pounded again.) |

Four rivets along the bottom, 3 bolts along the top, Two bolts/side under the rear flares. |

And a lot of cursing. It took me longer to get the rear bumper off than to put the RL on. If I remember right I drilled out the rivets. |

OK, thanks---I decided to just mount my new connector on the hitch where the old one was, but I moved it about 3 inches to the right, closer to the receiver. And I mounted it as high as I possibly could. I hope that the receiver will protect it somewhat so that it doesn't get crushed again. I cut the old bracket off with my dremel tool. (It was welded on to the hitch.) I actually splurged and paid $30 for a dual connector--it has both the round 7 and flat 4. So now I don't have to worry about losing my 7 round to 4 flat adapter again. (If this one gets crushed, I'm going back to the $10 7 round, though--I'm not going to shell out $30 every time I go to Moab.  )

Troy, There are plastic rivets underneath the bumper fascia. Simple removal Then you deal with the rivets in your wheel well. Then there are a couple of brackets that hold the flares in place. Remove them and you can get the bolts off easier that are under it. Bumper comes right off. Notes: Use a hammer and philips screwdriver (or something similar in size to the rivet), to pop the rivet's center piece. The brackets are a headache but I used needle nose pliers to help get them off. If you plan to use those same plastic rivets to put the flares back in place, two people make life easier. There is no rivet gun for them. I wasted/shopped around Checker Auto for one the morning I was trying to get the bumper off. Use something like wire stripper pliers to keep the rivet in place but have the stem sticking through a hole. Use pliers or vise grips and yank on the rivet stem until it catches and is tight. Not easy to do alone. |

While I was removing my rear bumper and fenders I came acrossed 2 different types of rivets. It had plastic rivets on the bottom of the passenger side rear flare while the other side had those PITA steel rivets. I drilled out the steel rivets and replaced them with some plastic Chrysler rivets from Autozone.[/i] |

Yeah, I'm familiar with the rivets and stuff. I've had my front bumper off a few times. The rear bumper just throws in a few twists that I didn't want to deal with. Thanks for the info, though. If I decide to get a RL rear bumper in a year or two, it will come in handy.
