When welding on the Jeep or any other vehicle what precautions should be taken to protect the electrical system? Is there risk of frying anything? |

I've heard that you want to completely top up the fuel tank to avoid the vapors potentially igniting. (top up the filler neck) The science behind the logic: Gasoline doesn't burn, it's gasoline vapoir that actually ignites. -Mark |

Make sure you ground the vehicle really well. The welder I learned from would actually connect directly to an earth ground (metal rod stuck in ground) as well as the welders ground. Maybe overkill, but couldnt hurt I suppose. Disconnect battery as mentioned, dont know about the fuel tank thing, but at least make sure you dont have a leak somewhere and proper ventilation as well. |
