Hello everyone, I know this has been discussed and I have searched and read many threads with good info. I have decided against a hitch mount simply because I have to run some pretty rugged terrain to get to where I ride and hitch mounted racks seem to extend and hang too low. However, I have the cragar steel wheels and 245/75 tires so my spare is already a lot more weight on the door than regular spare. Also, the bikes I will be carrying are downhill bikes and weigh about 40 pounds a piece. What I am wondering is if I could remove my spare and either leave it, put it in cargo area, or mount it to the roof and just have my bikes on the rear gate. Has anyone done this? It would only be for biking trips and not all the time. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
