I was reading a post on here about how a guy had replaced his engine at 137,000 miles. To me that sounds low for a engine to fail by todays standards. Maybe he was towing a heavier load than should be towed or something. I PM'd him but haven't heard back from him yet. I read on another site that someone on here had around 200K miles on thier KJ. I looked at a '04 Limited that had 70K on it, but I don't think I would consider it if I would have to worry about the engine failing around 140-150K. I know how durable the old 4.0L is and I would expect the same from the 3.7L. So how many of you guys on here have a whole bunch of miles on your KJ's? How are they holding up? Oh and what would ya ythink about a '04 KJ Limited with 70K on it? It is priced at $12,888 but I figure to get it for $11,000. Thanks for any info.

Sounds like they want too much for that many miles.

I have an `04 Renegade with 35K on it and I still owe Chrysler over $12K.My Reny had a lot on it.

With those miles, I'd look at $9k for that 04 KJ. Look up the Blue Book value.

For this area, that may be true, Tokyojoe but, you gotta remember, Jeeps aren't a dime a dozen everywhere else, like they are around our neck of the woods. $11k doesn't sound too terribly bad for Vegas but, I'd still haggle over that price, if it were me. Is it loaded? If not, shoot for about $9500-10K. If it's been on the lot for a couple weeks, the dealer might even take 9 for it.

I've got 134,000 on my 2002. Shortly after I hit 100K, a valve spring broke. I had all the valve assemblies replaced at that time and it's been running strong, but those springs could be a weak spot. I seem to recall reading of at least one other failure.

I hope to put at least 200K on it before I get rid of it.

When in doubt, put in a HEMI when it dies
Just another pondering traversing the LOST board....

P.S. 56K and running fine..

Just turned 68,000 miles and she's still running like a dream! No ticks, bangs, whooshing or whistling and no mechanical or electrical issues. This is one reason I do 95% of my own maintenance. Can you hear me knocking on wood, here?

I will turn 131,000 miles today . My 2002 kj is just over 5 years old. 43 oil changes later and engine still runs just as good as it did at 10,000 miles. I due maintain the hell out of the vehicle due to its a work vehicle and can not afford to break down on the road. May be looking for a new vehicle at the end of the year or in 2008, but no reason I cannot see at least 160,000 with out any problems.

For the sake of saving a thread from becoming something similar to a previous thread: Please click here to read the thread of "highest mileage" KJ's. Some posters give a discription of any problems they encountered along the way. There are 6 pages of mileage accounts

I've owned my 2002 forever now and it's never let me down. It doesn't have the mileage that some other have (just reaching 60K miles) but I drive it every day in the city which isn't the nicest way to treat it. Every car has problems once it reaches a certain mileage but it's up to the owner to either fix it or start all over again with car payments.
