Rhino line or not?

After TJKJ's inspiration and a few others I've really been intriqued by doing this I just don't know what I think.

So after a quick photoshop what does everyone think?

obviously without the reflection but I didn't feel like spending that much time on it.

I just don't know if I'll like how it will turn out and if it doesn't turn out good I'll never hear the end of it.

I think it looks good and offers good protection.

Sorry to say you can't use spray-on bedliner on the textured gray bumbers/flares,it won't stick.You need the smooth paintable bumbers/flares.It'll stick but flack off soon afterwards just wasting your money,sorry.Both Rhino lner and Line-X need a paint(or primer) surface that has been scuffed with 80-120 grit sandpaper to stick,It won't stick to bare metal or bare plastic.My KJ is a limited so it came with painted bumbers/flares in which I scuffed with 80 grit scotch-brite and then sprayed the bedliner on.

Tell that to allyrand. His sport flares and bumpers are holding up fine after rhino-lining. The shop that did them used a special primer on them and then rhino-lined them. They have been done for going on 3 years now.

Yep,you have to use a primer(with lots of adhesion promoter) first,it won't stick to bare plastic as I stated already.Preping and primering will increase to cost alot.

You had better (real time) look at a rhino/Line-X'd vehicle first before doing it. It won't look anything like the picture.

Here is a thread with a couple pics of mine after Herculiner. It dulls up after a week or two. Overall I am really happy with it. Just need to touch up some spots which is no problem.....

I'm really wanting to do this as well. Thanks everyone for the info. When I finally get around to it, hopefully I will have all the information i need to do it right.

Also, my friend's dad owns a machine shop that makes a lot of parts for the military. They use a special epoxy paint on a lot of the parts. From what I understand, this is the paint they use on tanks and such! It's dull and tough as nails. They painted an old mazda pickup that they have with the army green paint and it looks sweet! But anyway, I'm not sure if the stuff sticks well to plastic or not, but it could be a good alternative to the bed liner stuff for flares and bumpers....

We make some stuff that is finished with carc paint. Its a super chemical resistant paint made for war vehicles. Id like to see a KJ in that dress!

is that the same stuff im talking about? i dunno what its called. do you know if it sticks to bare plastic?

It doesnt sound like the same thing your talking about... I would imagine anything would stick to plastic if its prepared correctly. Not sure of the adhesion properties of the carc. I just know its very strong, chip resistant, and sea foam green color!

Yikes!! I think that might clash with my dark garnet red paint... The stuff I speak of I've seen in army green, white, and black. Im not sure if it comes in any other colors. It is also super chem resistent and you couldnt chip it if you tried! Its a really similar texture to the bare sport flares, so i think it would work great if it can be made to stick. Which, like you said, anything will stick if prepped properly. Maybe, if you need a paint or primed surface for this stuff, you could spray on a layer of Krylon Fusion, and then whatever on top of that...
