So I just got my KJ back after a MONTH at the dealer. I brought it in for the following symptoms:

• Whining noise in trans area on cold start, vehicle in park. Once fluid heated up a bit, it would get better. At operating temp, no real noise.

• Whining noise in trans area between 30 - 35 MPH and 70 - 75 MPH.

• Pulsing sensation when trying to hold constant speed between 30 - 40 MPH. I don't mean the typical lugging due to being in too high a gear (it's an AT, 3.7, 4X4), but really bad jerking sensation.

So they first replaced the transfer case, didn't help. They then replaced the "front pump" on the trans as well as the torque converter.

The good news is that the cold start whine and pulsing are now gone. But the trans whine @ 33 MPH is still there. Maybe not quite as loud, but still loud enough for people riding in the Jeep to ask me about it.

My folks' '04 doesn't do it, and neither did the new Freedom edition I tested at another dealer. I drove a new Sport when I went to pick mine up, and it had the same noise! Build date on mine is 04/07, and the other Sport with the noise was 06/07.

So I gotta know - does anyone else with the same trans have the 33 MPH whine? It's pretty loud, and I can't believe Jeep wouldn't have done more to address it if it is, in fact, normal.

mine not only whines, but it does the pulsing thing when holding a constant speed at any speed above 30MPH, even 90MPH it still jerks, and the dealer tried putting the vehicle in 4LO (after i complained that i couldn't) and it stalled out on them. it fired back up in 4LO, but i don't think its supposed to do that. go Chrysler/jeep says its just software and that the transmission and x-fer case need not to be replaced and that there is no "real major" problem.

o yea and sometimes i smell something like burning transmission fluid, but no "real major" concern here...

Tranny fluid level, that's the most common problem with tranny whinning. But having a '07 you can't check the fliuld level. It could either the tranny fliud level is to low or the diffs making the noise from inproper break in.Also make sure the t-case shifter is correctly adjusted,a misadjusted sfifter cable could cause the t-case to be slightly engaged in 4wd making the whine also.OR just turn the radio up,I haven't heard a funny noise in my KJ for 5 years after installing the two 10" subs and amp.

Whining sounds normal at hw sppeds.. All four of our Jeeps will do it given the correct circumstances.

My liberty makes so many noises at startup its not funny.. Cant really hear them any more since I got a flowmaster.

I have an '07 and I do not notice a whining sound at any time.
I do notice the pulsing sensation sometimes, but it's not extreme.
It's just enough pulsing that I can feel it, but then I always wonder if I'm just imagining it.

Should have gotten a Limited, More body insulation. less noise from outside.

Just kidding.

Which Tranny do you have besides being automatic?

I have the 42RLE 4 speed auto.

Aren't there others avaliable? TJKJ2002, do you know?

The only tranny's available for the '07's are the 42RLE auto and the 6-speed manual.
For the '05-'06's have the 42RLE,6-speed manual(I think the 5-speed was still for the '05's,not sure),and the 545RFE 5 speed auto(CRD only).
The '02-'04's have the 45RFE('02-mid '03) auto,42RLE(mid '03-'04) auto,and the 5-speed manual.
These are for the KJ's sold in the USA only.
