Brake Pad Life - 70,000 Miles?

Post subject:  Brake Pad Life - 70,000 Miles?
Need some advice.

I've got a 2003 Liberty with almost 70,000 miles.

When replacing tires at 60,000, they did not tell me the brake pads/rotors needed changing or truing . Previously, at 45,000 miles, the garage told me they had 75%+ of their life left.

Given, that most of those miles are highway miles, I am still wondering if they should be replaced?

There is no squeling when braking. No squealing in reverse or when going slowly. They do feel a little mushy or underpowered, but that just might be a mental thing. LOL. I assume jeep factory OEM rotors and pads have wear indicators right?

Is this usual?

I would bleed the brakes if they feel a bit soft and see what happens.

I agree bleed the brakes. If their is plenty of meat left on the pads don't worry about them if the rotors need it get it trued. Does it still steer straite when braking or does it pull to either side or pulsate if either and plenty of meat definately get those rotors trued. If none of these problems are effident don't worry about it or find a shop you can trust easier said then done but check around. Good Luck :P

Ours is a 2003 too and w/ 70k as well. Our has 1/2 life left all the way around my shop told me. I had them flush my brake fluid and the pedal seemed much more like new, not as spongy. Cost only $35.

DO KJ's have wear indicators, or do they just go straight to metal?

Ive never noticed a wear indicator on mine.

I bleed my brakes a few weeks ago at 30k.. Im alittle OCD on the maintenance stuff though.

No wear indicators.

I did my brakes when I bought mine at 50k in Oct '05, then again in March this yearat 80k miles, new rotors and pads. I only cut rotors once and that once was used up in 05:P There are no wear indicators, and a lot of tire places that don't do service work don't bother looking at your brakes because they don't make any money on it if you need brakes.

It's worth pulling the wheels to check, IMHO. Get a jack and rotate your own tires next time they're due, and you'll learn a lot including the status of your pads.

I meant the factory ones don't. I put the mopar pads on at the first brake job and VatoZone off brand ones at my 2nd brake job...neither has indicators
