I started getting a grinding sound from my right rear. I pulled the wheel, and the caliper...holy crap! The rear brakes were toast. It appeared that the slides weren't greased very well and got stuck. the inside pad was worn to the metal, the outside pad looked good. My Liberty only has 15,000 miles on it.

I put on new rotors and pads and removed the slides making sure to squirt plenty of grease in the boots. I gave everything a good cleaning too.

Next time you guys pull your rear wheels, it might be a good idea to check the rear brakes, especially the inside pad.

Make sure you use high temp grease or the problem will return quickly,the heat from the brakes will melt the regular grese allowing it to just run out of the slides and rubber boots.

Liberty's seem to have real problems with the rear disks working right.

Looks like you should still be under warranty,I mean at 15,000 there's obviously a premature failure here.If you did the work yourself,you should call DC and see about turning in a warranty claim. With a saftey issue such as brakes,they should take care of you.I was also thinking that there was a recall on some years for rear brake failure.

Make sure the piston isnt locked up. I took my pins out to grease them good as I had heard that they may get stuck. About a week later my piston seized and I had to replace the caliper. Just keep an eye on it and watch for any drag. I could clearly tell it was dragging when I was trying to pull out.
