Post subject:  2003 Renegade and aftermarket roof racks

First off, great forum. Been lurking for awhile, finally registered.

I have an '03 Renegade, and want to use the Thule rails from my last vehicle (that have been sitting in the basement for 2 years since getting the jeep) on it. Can I just remove the plastic "shell" from the Jeep rack, get some 450 brackets, and I'll be good to go? I was thinking it would be that simple, but the Thule catalog lists "no fit" for the '03 Renegade. Is this just because the plastic is in the way? Using the existing side rails, and the Thule cross rails, will it handle a mid-weight canoe or a pair of kayaks without a weight issue?

Thanks in advance for any insight anyone might have.

I have a yakima on mine and I had to get the low rider mount,s which you could get and use your thule bars as the yakima accept both round and square bars

Yabbut N/A has a Sport not a Renegade and the Renegade bars are different I think even after you strip the plastic. I think you need to hear from a Renegade owner.

I couldn't tell from the picture (actually I can, I guess I just wasn't paying attention). According to the Thule guide it seems that the '02 and '03's had different rails then all of the years following. I guess I'll just pull the plastic and see what I end up with.

You can remove the basket and be down to non-Renny side rails. so just look up the adapter for a regular Liberty and your crossbars should work just fine, assuming they are the correct length.
