Given it was a stock hummer vs. a suped up Model T but it stills illustrates what bloated crap the H2 & H3 are.

You tube has many examples of people taking their Hummers off road and discovering that the marketing weasels at GM are writing checks the product can't cash.

It is cool though that there are a lot of people at least wheeling them and eventually modding them to survive....hmmm...sounds a lot like the KJ.
I see a lot of wheeling trips for Humms and they perform well for what they are. Considering the problems we face (ball joint problems, broken front diff housings, etc) we and the Humms are really not all that different in what our (Jeep/DC) engineers did for/to us.

Its not what you wheel but how you wheel it. Lets go wheeling!

I like the hummer H3's alright. Except for the fact that theyre basically a chevy colorado truck with lots of extra stylish weight on 'em. Now, if chevy were to offer all the extra stuff the H3 gets to its drivetrain, skidplating, wheels n tires, axle ratios ect, and have it available as an optional off-road package on the colorado like they did with the ZR2 on the S10's, id be all over that.

The new 2008 H2 & H3 Hummer's will get new engines which should make a big difference. I am interested to see how the H3 performs with the new V8 instead of I5.

In theory they could offer the new 4.5L Diesel in the H3 since they already have done the engineering to cram in the gas V8.

I test drove the H3 before I bought the KJ. Biggest reason I got the KJ instead? Diesel motor. The second biggest reason was the visibility. The H3 has a pretty high beltline. It's still a good truck though. I'm with JJ on the similarities between us and them.

The H2...well, I CAN say that if I had a choice between taking a Suburban and an H2 off the road...I'd pick the H2.

"The Hummer's driver was none too pleased. "If you gave it another 1,000 feet, it would be a different story," groused Thomas Effinger II."

1000 feet of what? Head start maybe? This doesn't even sound like off road, just a hill! I could have told them the Model T with 100HP on ~1000 pounds would be faster than 6000 pounds riding on 325HP ...duh!

It's a phony test. The model-T came with a 20 hp engine, this one had a 100 hp engine. That's 5x as powerful as the original making it's hp per pound much higher.

Yeah, it was 100 hp, but from an engine built in the 1920's with 1920's technology! Anyway you cut it, an H2 is a bloated worthless piece of bling-bling crap, made for the mere purpose of making baby boomers feel hard core.

I'll take the Model T!

No, it's a 20's engine built with modern technology. if it was built with 1920s technology, it would be lucky to see 60 hp.

the H2 has its place, just like the Liberty. We can talk crap about the H2 all day long, but go wheel with a STOCK H2 with a STOCK KJ and THEN keep talking crap.

They should have had each vehicle tow a KJ up that hill 8)

Agree though that it was not a fair demonstration of each, the H was set up to lose from the get go. You have a stripped down basically a frame with an engine and then thet big bloated body. I dont really like any of the Hs either but it was not a fair fight.
NOW someone take their Libby and out it up against that Model T and we will see who is talking crap then  I am sure the KJ will be going home very sad! Driver experience played into it as well!

I just read the article!!! All from a 1920's Model A. But even if it only had 60HP, The Model T most likely would have beat the H2. The KJ would have been less of a challenge, but it also has a better weight to HP ratio than the H2. So, all things being equal, my money is on the KJ... Now if the contest was to see how many gawking teenagers, with their pants half way down their butts showing their cracks & boxers to pay attention to the car... my money is on the H2!

The H2 does have it's place, as I acknowledged before it's "made for the mere purpose of making baby boomers feel hard core."

Don't get me wrong, This was a stupid, pointless test. Several random vehicles racing up a small hill, which may or not have been paved, but was certainly no more challenging than a football field... Who gives a flip & why is this in Forbes magazine?
