Post subject:  KJ GOES to the HOSPITAL.....

After a great sunday of 4wheeling with some of the guys over at the L.O.S.T NE chapter, I had encountered mechanical damage. All was fine when I shifted out of 4HI, untill this afternoon. I was leaving work and my drivers front wheel was making some really bad sounds. Clunking, grinding, squeeking and I was scared because it started when I hit 75MPH. I slowed down to 55 on I-84 and brought it to the Jeep dealer.

I have no Idea what hapened but I hope the dealer does not tear me a new one.

What's the parts damage, cost-wise? for the driveshaft and hub bearing, it actually sounds like labor is pretty reasonable.

yea, if they replaced both the front driveshaft and the wheel bearing then thats not bad at all. Shouldnt the front drive shaft be covered under the powertrain warranty though?

Yea the drive shaft is covered under the warranty. But not for my KJ. I have over 94K on it. LOL

yea both bearings and drive shaft needs to be replaced and the total cost is 888.87. really not too bad of a deal concidering that is with the cost of labor.

I really can not complain about my repair cost. This is the first major thing that Ever went wrong with my KJ besides the LBJ recall. But that I did not pay for. I gotta say, last weekend I took the KJ for HARD trip and if that was all that happened, Im kool with it...

Jeep Dawg,

Check this out, Look around it gives you an idea of the prices for the parts.

The axel berrings are only 15.00 each.

Look it over, might need to question the stealerships parts pricing. This is a DC dealer in Texas. I get some parts from.

http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=getJointLocator&siteid=214583&chapter=&Sectionids=20,0&groupid=10016&subgroupid=20059&componentid=60086&make=17&model=Liberty&year=2003&graphicID=T043060&callout=8&catalogid=1&displayCatalogid=0

Good luck. Can you do any of this yourself?
Hell you can get both axel assemblies for 630.00, not including shipping.

pretty nice site man.
Thank you. I know about the axel bearings being kinda cheap. the dealer all ready told me they were $21.13
my main cost is the drive shaft, LBJ and my hub assy. actually they are redoing my LBJ under the recall.

The KJ is all done now. The dealer said that my CV boot was missing and my drive shaft boot had a tear in it.
I had to have my drive shaft, CV joint,
LBJ and hub assy replaced.
Jeep covered the LBJ (AGAIN), and the CV joint.
All I had to pay for is the hub assy and drive shaft
to the drivers wheel, universal, and the o2 sensor because
it was snagged on something. It still had a peice of barb wire on the sensor. (This was from my last trip in NY TWIN ARCH TRAILS).
The only reason they did not cover the hub assy and shaft and the other parts was because they saw a ton of mud in my skids and every place else and they said it looks like i was doing some 4wheeling. My answer was, well thats what I bought it for.

I was like what ever just repair it and let me know when it's done.
Now that it is done, I need to test it.......

You should have said, "I did what the Jeep commercials showed a KJ doing."

They can't argue with that.
