I just have the stock roof rack on my 2002 Liberty. New to the Jeep world, I was thinking about eventually getting a Thule or similar roof rack that would fit my stock one. I guess most things you would want to carry on the roof would need a set of add-on bars to accomadate? I have seen lots of stuff on Libbys, from Canoes to cargo bags. I bought a cargo bag last month, only to find out there needed to be a four-point roof rack to properly mount it, so I returned the bag.
Can you guys give me an idea what I should be looking for at the auto store? Does any aftermarket brand fit the stock rack on the Liberty, such as Thule. Is there different styles and sizes? I just want something basic.
Also, what can you carry on these racks? I have seen a canoe and cargo bags, but what other things, or what weight rating is on a roof rack? Like, what if I had an extension ladder that I had to take somewhere, can an item like that be tied down on a roof rack?
Thanks for your help fellas, this is the first rig I have had with a rack, so I am new to the scene, as well as the Libby, which I absolutely love!!
