Q18: What does 'lifetime' mean?
A18: Lifetime is lifetime.

What Chrysler is saying is that I can keep coming back for new engines, transmissions, xfer cases, drive shafts, axels and so on for as long as I live?!? As long as it’s not damaged from abuse ect. I figure I could get away with a mild lift (ie OME), 33" tires and call it good, this thing would be worth its weight in gold :D (To me anyway)

There are so many loop holes that they will have, no way will they honor everything that you think they should. I think it will be worse than it is now. One big marketing ploy!

Quote:
Q4: Are there specific provisions to the new warranty?
A4. In order to maintain the Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty, you must have a powertrain inspection performed by an authorized Chrysler, Jeep or Dodge dealer once every 5 years. This inspection, performed at no charge, must be made within 60 days of each 5-year anniversary of the warranty start date of the vehicle. It is your responsibility to perform preventative maintenance on your vehicle. You’re strongly encouraged to follow the instructions contained in the Scheduled Maintenance Service guidelines in your Owner’s Manual.

Means - you better keep all receipts and get that inspection done on time.

Quote:
Q13: How long will this new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty be offered on Chrysler vehicles?
A13: At this time, we plan to continue this warranty program through the 2008 MY.

Means - We'll try it for a year as a gimmick to boost flagging sales.

If they really meant it...they would let anyone that had a vehicle still under factory warranty now...purchase the same "lifetime" warranty. Instead it is a marketing gimmick to clear the lots before all the '08s get there.

Go buy a new one.

Its a suckers bet though because most won't keep the vehicle that long. Some of us will.

Lifetime is on everything if you purchase the extended warranty at time of purchase.

A new owner of Chrysler/Jeep can make all prior commitments null and void, can't they?

I'm guessing the guys at Chrysler are making big commitments to move vehicles now and then they will put the company up for sale saying "look at all the product we've moved" and trying not to focus on this large commitment that they've made. But in all honesty I hope it catches on with other dealers. :D

I don't think it's a ploy to flip the company as a whole... I just think it's intended to clear out the old inventory like someone else previously mentioned. The new minivan is going to need some "pushing" to get sales going as more and more consumers switch to crossover type vehicles to maintain that cool and trendy image.

The only new product that Jeep gets is the Liberty - everything else is old so their lineup also needs some backing to make people purchase.

Did you al notice it does not apply to any diesel powered vehicles?
That sucks!! I would consider purchasing the coverage (purchase is available on 06/07 for 60 days) But....

Wow I started a real fire storm here, now I'll admite to being gullible and I'm no lawyer but if you have an agreement in writing stating that x components are covered for as long as you own the vehicle so long as you let us inspect it every five years to keep the warrenty in effect and I chose to own said vehicle till you have to pry it from my cold dead fingers, your saying the next time chrysler changes hands that warrenty is null and void? I'm really curious now about the legalaties about making such a bold promise and say for example who would I take to court if 30 years from now I go to the dealer for my 3rd engine or whatever and they laugh in my face and tell my mother smells of elderberrys and my father was a hamster now go away or we shall have taunt you a second time.

I'd take a lifetime on a diesel motor if they offered it. 3/36k is a joke on the diesels. It's just starting to get broken in at that point.

If I could find a nice red JK Unlimited Rubicon, I certainly wouldn't be steered away by a lifetime power-train warranty. But it won't get me to the lot any faster than I already want to.

Maybe, like was already said, it will make the other manufacturers shoot for better warranties.

Id' rather that than "I don't want to talk to you no more, you empty headed animal food trough wiper. I fart in your general direction."
