So, I've got a problem. Swapped an OTIS overhead console for a EVIC. I made the swap because the EVIC has a menu button where I can change features like automatic door lock, head lamp delay, ect.

The dealer said the swap would not work, and that I'd seeze/fry the cars computer causing all kinds of damage. Other's say it will work including http://alucinari.net/jeep/kj/evic_install/ .

Anyway, just made the swap, and of course, everything seems to be working except the menu features. Keep in mind, the whole reason I've gone throught this trouble is to have those features  .

I've got an 02 limited that already had an OTIS, and what I swapped in was an EVIC out of a 2000 Grand Cherokee.

Any advice on the subject? Is everything just going to be slow to update? One thing that I noticed what that after some time, some more questions appeared under the menu function than were not there when I first hooked up the EVIC. I'll be checking the jeep and checking back here in the morning.

I'm the one hosting that EVIC page (I didn't write it, but one of these days I'll get off my butt and update it.)

To be honest it's all pretty hit and miss as to what features may or may not work with a specific KJ. I currently have an EVIC from an '01 WJ in my KJ and everything works properly except the front door and rear gate and glass open messages appear in the dash cluster instead of in the EVIC.

If the features that don't work are important to you, then try an EVIC with a different part number. Oh, and tell your dealership that they're full of crap. Many of u have performed the swap/installation (my KJ didn't come with an overhead console at all) and I've yet to hear of a single problem caused by the installation. People with LH cars (Intrepid, Concorde, 300M) have been installing and swapping consoles for a long time too.

Well, unless anyone else has some advice, I guess the EVIC I've got goes up for sale and I look for another one. The one I've tried works in an '02 KJ, just not the menu fetures, Part # 56042271AB. PM me if you're interested buying ... I'll also post in KJ Parts for sale.

There seems to be a design change in the EVIC's beginning in 2001. The module design is slightly different. Any GC part # starting with 260427... will be the '01's and up (older ones were 560422...).

Whereas almost all of them work, the newer ones seem to have a few more features. IF you want Homelink, you'll be looking for a 56042749--; Homelink and TPMS: 56042756--.

EVIC's lose the "instaneous MPG" beginning in '03 with the AH series. The '01's and '02's are excellent beginning with the AA's to the AG's and should be programmable and mostly compatable with the messaging. One of my personal favorites is the 56042749AF ('02 GC, Homelink, no TPMS).

Remember, these part numbers are from Grand Cherokee EVICs only.

Just a note: TPMS can get expensive. If you get the module, you'll also need 4 (or 5) sensors ($180 to $200), installation ($40+), alloy wheels and possible reprogramming at the dealer (to switch on or off the 5th wheel) (I paid $95). The TPMS model will beep at you if you don't install the system.
