Here's the thing...
Was driving 7 hours south to Durango, CO the other day and in the first 20 minutes of driving my ABS light came on when i drove into the gas station. (This means that ABS has been disengaged). Fueled up and didnt think much of it...i then got back on the road after gassing up and the light went back off. (ABS is engaged) so i continued on.
Now this happened off and on all day while driving and it wasn't a real problem until we hit wolf creek pass. The light was on and my ABS was disengaged. After summiting wolf creek the drive down requires the OD off and brakes...as i got half way down the summit i started getting hard vibrations when braking and mushy pedal and i knew something was wrong...so, i limped down to the bottom of Wolf Creek Pass and it smelt like i was following a semi riding his brakes! only it was MY BRAKES!

So my question is...has anyone else experienced something like this? Im going into jeep on friday but i just thought i'd get some input from you guys first. Anyone know whats going on with my ABS?

I did check my brake fluid level and that all looked fine...thank god i didnt warp my rotors or glaze my pads

Hi Rocky,
Sorry to hear of your problems. I don't know what part of Colorado your in but try calling Lakewood 5 STAR at 303-716-3005. He ain't cheap in fact he is pricy but I've used him for many, many years first with my '95 Dodge Dakota 5.2 L with auto and 4x4 and now with my '02 Liberty Sport 3.7 4x4 with auto. He will tell you of problems or say this is going on don't worry about it or keep an eye on it, or even we won't waste your money now but will need to address it in the future. A strange concept now of days when a lot of mechs want to through a lot of money at a repair and still not be sure if it fixs the problem. The owners name is "O.T." tell him David Rush reccomended you. Or PM Lil Red he's a lost member and a cool guy old school mechanic who takes pride in his work and is willing to advise L.O.S.T. members . I'm an old shade tree mechanic myself but my first thought was fluid level or warped rotors. :? But you checked them, so check with either of these guys.

Good luck wish I had better answers, but with computers running our rides the tech has left me behind. I do have a shop manual for my '02 don't know if it helps but I'ld be happy to look if you want. :) 8)

I don't know about the ABS light - but there have been several posts about rear calipers 'siezing' - I think it's actually the bar the caliper slides on.
