| Post subject: | Liberty Roof without rails |
I'd like to get roof rails from Rock Lizard. My 2002 Liberty didn't come with any rails. I'd like to see what the roof of your Liberty looks like with rails installed. Is the roof gutter filled with a plastic cover between the rail mounting feet? What about the area in front of and behind the rail mounting feet? It looks like my Liberty didn't even come with nutzerts installed in the mounting holes. Guess they come with the rail kit if I purchased it from the stealership. Does anyone have firsthand knowledge about this? By the way, nice rails Rock Lizard. Thanks, Ron |

Hey Ron, Yeah I got the "base" model KJ, or so it seems. Mine didn't have the roof rails on it. The plastic trim runs the length of the roof line. You would have to cut the plastic/ metel around where the feet should go, or buy the front trim piece from the dealership for around $80 a side. I just cut mine, bit rough looking, but if I spent more time with a dremmel, it'd look ok. When I got the plastic pieces off, there were no nutzert, but it did have the spots in the roof liner. Got them from the dealer for a couple bucks a pop i think. However, after removing the my custom rack a few times, the nutzerts stripped out. I ended up drilling them out and running bolts/washer through the rail and liner and using a nut/washer to hold it on. Bit stronger that way too. Here's a pic with just the plastic on the roof. Shoot me a pm and I'll snap a few of the rack with the plastic cut. http://www.azlostkj.com/azlostkj-home.html hope that helps. Mike |

I also cut the plastic gutter strips to fit a used set of rails. get the nutzerts from the dealer and the install tool or make one. |

oh yeah ditto on the install tool. lot better idea than just threading the bolt in with the rack in place. edit, Ron sent pics |
