One of my pet peeves is wiper blades that skip and hop as they're dragged across the windshield, especially when the windshild only has a few sprinkles on it.

Well, just for fun, I picked up a pair of blades from Costco yesterday. They're about $13 a pair, but they're supposed to last a long time, and they have teflon strips on them to make them slide more smoothly.

I found that they really work, even when the windshield is totally dry.

I don't know if all KJs have this, but my driver-side wiper has some sort of wind deflector on it, I assume to keep the wiper blade against the windshield at high speeds. I don't want to replace the entire blade assembly, because I assume that that wind deflector is there for a reason. So I just replace the blade refill.

Well, KJ wiper blades are 19". Costco only has these teflon blades in even lengths (18", 20", etc.)

So, here's what I did:
- Replaced the passenger-side blade assembly with a 20" Costco blade assembly. It works great, and gives you an extra inch of clean windshield.
- Pulled the refill from a 20" Costco blade, replaced the one in the driver-side blade assembly, and then used a pair of snips to cut it down to about 1/2" beyond the end of the blade assembly. (Ends up being about 19", as you might expect.)

I realize this doesn't qualify as a "mod" (comparable to Wally's favorite--Maglite mount), but it may be useful to someone.

[Hmm...interestingly enough, if you try to abbreviate "assembly" as "stupid'y", it comes out as "booty'y". :D]

Or if your not into modding your blades...

I've been using Bosch Wiper Blades # 40919 - "Micro Edge Excel" (Front) & Rear # 40711 (11"). These proper fit blades from Advance Auto Parts have been nothing but great for me.

Up here in snow country I have used the winter blades for the winter, and anything over 60 mph and the blades separate from the windshield. So I've gone back to the plain blades...which I have to pound out the ice to make them sit flat.

I removed the wind deflector years ago and haven't experienced any problems.

Yeah, my replacement blades, without the wind deflectors and they are fine, too. The winter blades don't let the wind through and they take off like wings!

aren't replacement blade inserts designed to be cut-to-fit? I'm pretty sure that was in the instructions on the blades the last time I got replacement blades for a car (I just got cheapos - up here in new england it doesn't matter what you have, they won't work for 8 months out of the year :-P)
