Post subject:  ??? On Added Backup Lights

Those of you that have added backup lights:

1. Did you wire directly to factory lights for power?

2. How did you run your wires?

All of those questions depend on the power requirments of the added lights.

If they are a fog light type of add-on, then you SHOULD use the factory back-up lights to trigger a relay and have the main power come off the fuse block or even better the battery itself.

They may be questioned by local law enforcement so be careful.

I would wire the relay as stated above, but have a secondary kill switch so they would not come on while backing up at the local grocery store or mall, only whn i needed them.

That's exactly what I did, but I used a 2 position switch with a center off so I could also turn the lights on whenever I needed them, like hooking up a trailer at night.

yep, I just installed a work light in the back. Just ran a small wire through the unibody rail to the front and then a switch for it. That way, it only goes when I want it to.

Ive got the lights but I never figured out how I wanted to mount them.

I was going to wire them to the battery and put a switch inside. I wasnt going to mess with a relay or anything.

What I would like to do, and just might do, is run the wires right to the backup lights. No relays or switches. They will come on when I go to reverse. I will point the light down some but not a lot.

mine are connected to the back up lights and through a relay and are adjusted to shine about 12/14 foot I would say behind the rear of the Liberty. Its about right so when someone pulls up against me at a light and I put it in reverse it HITS them really good
