I have a Sears model that's about seven years old and no longer works (actually thinking about getting a replacement from them because they will probably let me return the broken one).

Any recommendations for a good, inexpensive floor jack?

Thanks in advance, Brian

Sears has the professional-grade floor jack, but it's really heavy :D Pep Boys has the 6000lbs aluminum Torin jack that's lightweight and will lift a loaded Limited for under $200.

Ive got the 2ton version of this, its the best jack ever!

With 2 or 3 pumps its on the frame and then lifts about as fast as a regular jack. Its great.

Have you tried this on a lifted KJ? I'm also looking to get a floor jack but I want to make sure I get one that will have the travel necessary to lift a lifted KJ.

Pete,

Just make sure whatever you buy lifts to around 20" or so.

I had a 2.5 ton "speedy lift" jack that gave out in a matter of months. It was spitting fluid everywhere whenever I used it. I doubt that it deserved the 2.5 ton rating.

Now I have a 3 ton Craftsman that is BEEFY. The wheels are twice as big, the body is twice as wide, and the handle is twice as long. This thing is built like a brick crud house. Its not as fast as the "speedy lift" jacks, but man this thing could lift a bus! Its not on the Sears website, but they sell it in store for $70. It has an advertised lift height of 19.75". Great deal and I couldn't be happier. If you're looking for light and fast this is not your jack, however. This gets high marks in safety and strength though.

Edit: Found it on the site... http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00950186000&subcat=Lift+Equipment

Another note - Sears sells a high lift "SUV Jack" that claims 21" lift. Compared to the one I mentioned above it was actually lower. Plus it looks exactly like the $35 one Walmart sells. It is also the same design of the one that I had give out on me. BEWARE. Here's the link...http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?BV_UseBVCookie=Yes&vertical=TOOL&pid=00950143000

You can't tell from the pics, but the first jack I showed a URL for is literally about twice as big and much heavier. The product specs show 80 lbs vs 54 lbs. Same price, same material...you be the judge.

Joel,

Thanks man. That was exactly the info I was looking for. This will be my garage jack for use with my jack stands when I do mods and stuff so I wasn't looking for something light and small. I had another floor jack by some off-name company and it quit on me after about the 5th use.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'm taking a run over to Sears today to see what they have (that 3 ton jack looks like it will lift two Libertys!)

I'm bringing this topic back from the dead.... :grim:

my question is, why do I see a 2 ton floor jack that costs $250, but then I see a 2.25 ton floor jack that costs $50?

what should I be looking for in a good quality, safe, floor jack?

this one seems reasonably priced and extends 21", but i cant find any reviews of it
