i am trying to decide between these two.... Nylon Towing Recovery Strap 30' x 2" w/ Loop Ends 20,000 lbs Capacity = $40 & Heavy Duty Tow - Vehicle Recovery Strap 25' x 2" w/ Loop Ends 20,000 lbs Capacity = $22 is 5' really going to make a difference especially at twice the price? |

i would always go for longer, but you're right, almost double the price for 5' seems excessive... ![]() |

Of coarse the moment your stuck some place an you are just 4 foot short of a some one getting close enough to pull you without getting stuck their selves thats when you wish you had it. After driving all around the reservoir, last weekend, looking for straps to pull this guy out (and a rig with hooks... someday, soon), I think I'll just get about 100' worth, at least. Where are you getting those from, anyway? $22 seems like a pretty fair (read: cheap!) price. Stuck Toy: ![]() |

What better, tow strap is with hooks or loops? Sorry for the highjack but curious. |

dont ever get straps with the hooks if they ever snap you could be toast. not to mention their usually cheapos. the loops you can always grab some drings and theyll snag on yr factory hooks as well. also the loop ends are great for tree savers as well |

I've always used loops... wrap one end through itself and it's just like a hook |

I think combined with his 150' whinch, my buddies YJ has almost 450 feet of recovery range. Im at about 60 feet right now (Three 20x2" 20,000lbs straps.) But darn if I need to tow from the front (still no hooks lol). |

This may be a bit off topic, but what is the safest way to hook up your tow strap, if you don't have hooks on the front. My 2002 doesn't have tow hooks. Can the strap be hooked around the tow hitch ball? What about hooks that I have seen that slide into the receiver of the tow hitch? Just wondering what the best way is. |

The hooks are ok powerwise, but if you have to move around and reposition for a pull once the strap slacks and touches the ground you have a good chance of it coming off the hook. My Dodge truck many years ago came with full circle hooks (like a ram's horn) they worked great and didn't have that problem. |

Would you recommend a hook on the hitch rather than using the hitch ball on the receiver bar? Is one way better or safer than the other? Not that I do much towing, you just never know in snowy weather, when someone may need to be pulled out. Just want to be prepared to help others in need. |

Okay, I'll add my two cents into this conversation. The way I understand it recovery straps have hoops not hooks and will stretch under load. Tow straps have hooks at the ends and don't stretch very much. And remember, you get what you pay for. I've found straps for sale before cheap in a large automotive store that were selling as "recovery straps" but the label attached to them read that they were "tow straps". go figure... Either way treat them with as much respect as a winch line. Nothing can ruin your day like broken winch line or strap, especially if it has a hook or a shackle attached to it. NEVER TUG OR PULL FROM A HITCH BALL! I can't be any clearer on this point! Imagine for a moment if that hitch ball breaks loose and how it would fly! |

If you have a receiver just but no tow hook/clevis to go in it just push the loop of your strap up into the receiver and stick a hitch pin through. Works like a charm. BTW Tractor supply company has nice straps at a good price. |
