Post subject:  Stuck ebrake adjuster
Well, just got my Libby back from the dealer after they replaced a leaky axle seal under warranty. It's about 6 or 7 miles to my house, all highway, and when I got home, the rear brakes were smoking on the side that the seal was replaced on (driver's). I jack up the rear, and try to turn the wheels, and the ebrake is adjusted so tightly that it's dragging fairly heavily, and has basically cooked itself. The rotor is blued, and the wheel is extremely hot to the touch. The passenger side isn't as bad, but there's still some drag, and a lot of heat coming out from the wheel.

And the other thing is, when I picked it up at the dealer, the KJ rolled easily, and didn't appear to have any problems.....

Should I say "shame on it", and fix it myself, or bring it to the dealer AGAIN and let them have another shot at it (and possibly screw it up again)??

If I bring it to them, I want the seal replaced AGAIN (heat damage).

I'm super pissed..... :evil:

I would take it back and have them fix it. Since they removed the drum, then they messed up the alignment (possibly). If the service writer doesn't want to talk about it or help, then ask for the manager, and work your way up the food chain until you get the help and repair.

Regardless of 5 star or not, they should back their work.

Well, I brought it back today, and they're trying to tell me now that there's "nothing wrong that they can find". They said that the wheels turn freely now (no kidding - it's cause the e-brake shoes are burnt off now...), and they are not going to replace the seal again. The brakes were smoking yesterday, and the rotor is a beautiful deep blue now.... :roll:

Goddamn dealers...I knew I just should've done it myself....5 dollar seal and 45 minutes in my driveway. Instead, I'm out my vehicle for 2 days, and now my ebrake shoes are probably torched, and the rotor is burnt.

Did you show them the rotor? Blue rotor = bad times and pretty much shows them what happened.
You gotta replace it. It lost it's magic smoke.

I showed them the rotor..."the rotor looks fine to me..." was the response. Whatever - it's documented, at least.

I just got it back, and they replaced the ebrake shoes, and fiddled with the adjusters some more. No more dragging.

I just hate letting some clod work on my vehicle when I can generally do it faster and certainly with more attention to detail. I'm not worried about making time on a job....flat rate shops encourage shoddy work.
