The Liberty was ranked as one of the 10 best 'back to school cars.' Thought it was interesting :P

Quote:
10. Jeep Liberty
Small SUVs like the Jeep Liberty (2002-up) offer a good deal of versatility in cargo hauling, comfort and driveline configuration. The Liberty's rugged demeanor, 2WD or 4WD availability and outstanding reliability should serve as peace of mind to parent and student.

As a current student and Liberty owner I completely agree! I can carry my son, my books, my lab equipment, and my stuff for work in one place. Plus it is a great way to unwind after a long week of classes!

now a days back to school cars are quite different than back in the day when I had to go back to school, Freshman at Kent State here in Ohio I "had to " 8) drive a 55 Chevy 2 door hardtop with a 1969 Z 28 302 solid lifter cam engine, 780 dual line Holley, 4 speed Munice trans, nothing at all like the Liberty! People are so lucky now

I can see the Liberty as a safe choice because of the safety and utility it offers...

How did Miata end up on that list? talk about one car no college student needs, unless you like to replace your top and stereo monthly....

KJ

Perfect for carrying those bags of weed in the back. Bag hooks back there.

Perfect for the mobile Meth Lab - the KJ can handle a lot, even explosions.

Perfect for Lunchtime sex....well, if you have the newer models with the fold down flat seats.

Perfect for stuffing as many kids as you can in it and go for a record auto stuffing competition for small SUV's.

Perfect for, umm.........doing donuts on the school front lawn, yeah, that's it.

Just kidding about all of that

Alot of guys that I know that goto University started with an Acura or Honda sports car and now all have Chevy Silverados. Definately a back to school truck.

No doo doo!

I mean

Quote:
6. VW New Beetle
The Bug is the quintessential school car; my wife drove a 1970 convertible when I met her in college. The New Beetle provides that familiar silhouette but adds modern amenities never dreamed about by designers of the first "people's car." The New Beetle is a solid car with an award-winning engine that comes in turbocharged and convertible variants.

What a load of crap that is! Thats the last thing a college student needs!

And what really makes the Liberty best,is that even if you don't want to go back to school, you can just lock it in and find a trail back in the woods.
So you could call it a "Not goin' back to school car"too.

Most going-away-to-school college students can't afford a $10,000+ car, can they? I know that my school cuts into my ability to put in a decent amount of hours at work...

if my kids go away to college...they'll probably be driving a Liberty (probably a certain blue '02), but it'll more than likely be 25 years old by then. "good luck kid, i paid your tuition. get a job!"

Ah yes, so easy to tell everybody how MY kids will be when I don't even know their mom yet! yaHA!

That being said...man, it'd kick booty if my parents bought me an 02 toaster, let alone a car! Maybe I'll really kiss my mom's booty when she's up this weekend... "oh but mooooooom, you can't pay off your first born son's Jeep? he's workin sooooooo hard in school, and he'll buy you a Navigator when he graduates!"

and THAT being said... I like the Impreza, the Cobalt, and the Miata. Two of those I'd consider for a utilitarian daily driver...and the hint as to which two is IT AINT the Miata! the Focus is your average Ford economy car, the Civic...well...it's a friggin Honda, and I don't buy Hondas that have doors...I hate fullsize pickups unless they're old, have a solid front axle, and a shortbox/regular cab, the New Beetle doens't have enough room for my RC cars on race days...well..I like the Corolla, but the lower models look like they have mouse-hair upholstry...and the Scion xB/xA...if I were a rich man with the money to flat-out waste, I'd buy a yellow xB, put a horizontal black stripe down both sides emblazoned with yellow lettering that said "THE SHORT BUS"

Too many beers, and too many stupid assignments. I hope my homework doesn't read like this post does!

The Liberty and the Silverado are the only ones I would want to drive on that list. They did not take gas mileage into account though...

The most interesting thing I found from that was that the Grand Cherokee made the list of least reliable vehicles. I knew they were bad but, I didn't think they were that bad.
