There is almost no place to attach it to the frame on the car that i know of. Just pray you don't get stuck otherwise, you'll be wrapping it around your axle.

Yes, I do plan on getting a set down the road. So the question is since I don’t have them and I might go 4-wheeling this weekend are there access points on the frame somewhere that I can put a strap around both in the front and the rear? I have seen what can happen if you wrap it to an axel so that’s not an option. Are there any points on the frame that I can wrap a strap around? Are there any points on the frame that I can bolt a U bolt to and then maybe attached a carabiner clip onto that? That way I can use that carabiner clip to attach a tow strap. The next question is if there are any points on the frame that I can use will I be risking damage to the body panels once it is pulled tight? |

Carabiner clip? You're making a funny right? You can hook the back to your trailer hitch. No trailer hitch, you have till the weekend to get one on, will take you only a few minutes to install. Warn and others make a stinger for the hitch with a D ring for the strap. |

No I thought you can buy a carabiner clip that's good for 10,000lbs? No? Either way, it doesn't look good. So what would happen if you ran the car into a snow bank and a tow truck has to come a pull you out? What would they clip onto? I guess you just never want to be in that situation? |

Trailer hitch on the rear (or you can do front and rear hitches - allows you to mount a removable winch on the front later) Gris built these for the front http://www.lostjeeps.com/forum/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=9316 basically - there are no good tow points without adding something - hitch, tow hooks, something. there are bolt holes - but even if you could attach to them directly you'd probably at least tear off the bumper. |

Not good news. OK, so I tried searching and couldn't find a post on how to install new tow hooks. If this has been discussed could someone point me in the right direction? If it hasn't I'll start a new post for that topic. Thanks guys! |

Frame? You're making a funny right? j/k [kinda] but the Liberty doesn't have a frame..it's unibody. The tow hooks that come from the factory are bolted to the front of the unibody. |

Check the 'Tech Articles' section, there is a sticky for installation instructions with diagrams. The factory front tow hooks aren't too bad if you get the kit, it can be done without removing the front bumper plastic. |

The simple and SAFE answer is also the one you already know If you DO NOT have the PROPER recovery equipment then DO NOT GO OFF ROAD it is unsafe and not to smart You can make a simple rear hook using off the shelf hook and a good chunk of thick C-chanel that will work fine for the front you could build some of those D-ring things that others have or you could just order the OE hooks for the front and rush ship them then shop like crazy for a rear hich ,i found on on the shelf and called 2 places call a big U-haul place they probably will have one ~$150 but cheeper than pulling your axel off |

Before i had my KJ i had my toyota and pulled my buddies wifes KJ out the mud/water by the front sway bar after he burried it. Had no choice since the water was starting to come in through the bottom of the doors of the KJ. I had to jerk it about 10 times before it even started to move. After about an hour got it yanked out with no damage  Although i wouldn't recommend using that as a recovery point it worked.

I would use the tranny crossmember before I'd use the sway bar but, I'm guessing you were buried in water/mud and couldn't get to that. Basically, you take the easy lines, and be ready to turn around or hop in someone else's rig when the KJ might not make the next obstacle. Humility is cheaper than a lot of the parts you could break. |

Somebody used a sway bar on my old Jeep to pull it out and it was fine. But of course nothing is better than tow hooks. |
