Hi, I've searched the 'net extensively but haven't found any info regarding the noise created my 5 speed trans; it makes a noticeable rattling sound in every gear, but especially at idle. The dealer says that because the trans come from a Wrangler, it's normal. At 30,000 miles this Jeep is remarkably quiet inside except for this. So, is it really "normal"?

Thanks, I kind of thought so but I can imagine it'll be a challange to get a dealer to fuss up a fix.

Very interesting to see this post today... my 04 Wrangler had what the TJ guys called the Marbles in the trans... like you said especialy at Idle... never really heard it on the road but with the cluch in or in netural and the engine running .... sounded like marbles running around the pan of the trans...

Is that what you are hearing...

Yes it seems normal on the TJ's might check Jeep Forum for info on the TJ tech side.. seemed some had it replaced and same thing happen...don't know if they ever found a fix

Never noticed any other post in the libby forums about this... so I'd be finding another dealer.
if they are a 5 star dealer mention this:
Remember to mention that you saw there were a 5 star dealer... and wouldn't they want to take care of this instead of have it get to Jeep.

PS I have a Auto now so can't help on the libby side with this much

Good Luck
Mike

If it has synthetic gear oil in it I can see it having a rattle, ever since the big truck transmisson manufactures(Eaton-Fuller and Spicer) went to synthetic in theirs they been alot noiseier and it is really noitceable at idle.

but, it could also be the throw out bearing getting ready die :?

Yes, sounds like marbles alright but sometimes it's more like a diesel. The problem occurs mostly at idle with the clutch in and/or while accelerating. It's less noisy if you hold the shifter so maybe it has to do with the linkage.

Can somebody with a 2005 6sp provide some comments on theirs? Hmm, I wonder if that's a direct replacement if I end up needing to go that route.

Thanks,

Wade
