Hello everybody! I just bought a 2002 liberty sport with 95k miles. The issue I am having doesnt seem to happen all the time. When I come to a complete stop (right after the vehicle is stopped) I can feel a light "thud", this is the same exact "thud" I feel when taking off from a stand still. I am not sre where to begin, I think it might be the tranny mount? Please, any input is appreciated, this is driving me insane!
Thanks - Denton

I would bet that you have a faulty U-Joint.

Probably just normal drive train slack. Many people complain about it on the libertys. It annoyed me at first but Im use to it now.

Its even worse with the powertrax locker. If Im in traffic I put it into fulltime which seems to take alot of the slack away. It probably wouldnt if you didnt have the locker though.

grease your slip yoke, I had the same symptoms you are explaining for months, dropped the Driveshafe and greased the splines, no more noise and it's been good for a year

What kinda clamps did you use to put the boot back on N/A? Just regular pipe clamps?

I'd say the rear control arm bushing are shot.

What is the trick to the clamps on the dust boot. Do I really have to buy a cv boot clamp tool, or can I use a screw clamp?

Is there an existing link that describes how to do this, or could you explain with more detail? Thanks!

Thanks for the info also. I just bought a 2003 last Wednesday and noticed the same thing this weekend. It came with a 3 month 3,000 mile full warranty, maybe I will have the dealer look at it too.

I just dropped the driveshaft today! U-joints seem to be fine. I greased the splines on the transfercase and driveshaft with lucas red and tacky #2. So far no thud! I will let everyone know if it continues to stay away. Thanks everybody for the advice!

How did you handle that clamp on the dust boot when you greased that?

Still no thud. This obviously fixed my problem :D
I just put a screw clamp on and ditched the cv style clamp

Thanks, I was planning on just trying the screw type clamp, but wanted to hear from someone that it worked first. :)
