Without doing the pinch welds, what are my options for an 02 limited that was made in Jan. '02 (Pre-Lowered) and stock 16" rims?

Not looking for a mud slinger treat, but don't want the quietest either. somewhere in the middle to slightly agressive.

You can go with some 245/70R16's with a pre-lowered without having to pound the pinch welds. That's the size I used to run. I'm currently running some 245/65R17 Destination AT's that I really like, but I don't use it for trails. They handle the snow and ice here in KY with no problems, and do fine on hilly gravel roads too. I've also heard good things about the Grabber AT2's and the Wrangler Silent Armors.

I run the stock size and they don't rub... (hehehe) 235/70?/16 Destination A/T's that I love.

For the first 6 months I owned my '02 pre-lowered KJ I ran 245/75 MT/R's,no rub on the pinch weld but slight rub on the foglamp door at full lock, ran on the stock rims,no lift.

Thanks.

But I have a few questions for you, KY Liberty.

First is how come you haven't logged on and sent me stuff for the BluegrassLOST.com site?

How can you have a 2001 liberty? and are you running 245/65R17's or 245/65R16's?

And I am sure you have heard good things about the Silent Armors, at over $180.00 a pop they had better be good.

Any feelings about Kuhmo's? I ran them on my XJ's for years and not a lick of trouble. Quite the opposite. I ALWAYS got out of anything I was in.

Thanks all for the input

tjkj,

did the rubbing adversly effect the fog lights? What about my question above, Kuhmo's? and do you think I will need any spedo adjusments with that size tire on stock rims?

I was hoping you would chime in on this discussion.

Thanks

I'm lifted...but I guarantee I could have run my 255/70/16 Silent Armors on my stock Pre-lowered sport. It rubs the front at full lock in reverse but no-where else. You can easily trim off the front plastic part on the bottom, below the bumper to avoid the rubbing. The 255s are much wider so they make the Jeep handle much better, plus they have a nice All-Terrain style tread pattern. Work well in rain too.

Haven't done anything with BluegrassLost yet since I simply haven't had any spare time. I work as a full time systems engineer, and I'm also a forensic computer analyst and the vice president of a computer forensics firm that works on a lot of military contracts. I was actually on the site last night looking around, and was going to get all my info onto it as soon as I get the lift and hopefully 255/70R17 Destination AT's installed instead of doing everything twice, one month apart.

My Liberty is a June 2001 build. It's a 2002 model. I used to have Michelin Cross Terrain 245/70R16's on the stock limited 16x7 rims, but now I run 245/65R17 Destination AT's on 2005 limited 17x7.5 rims. I went with them to save a huge amount of money over the Silent Armors, and because I had heard that there is a big hit on gas milage with them. I don't know about the Kuhmos. I don't know anyone that has had them.

Mine was built in September of 01'...I guess I could call mine an 01' too!

BTW...What all do you do as a Systems Engineer? I'm going into MET so I was wondering, if you wouldn't mind going into a little detail. :)

As a systems engineer, I work with computers and networks. I design, setup, and maintain servers, workstations, and networks. I run our network operation center with a few dozen servers providing web, email, dns, ftp, offsite backups, and virtual offices with a dark fiber ring for Internet connectivity. I also support around a thousand customers ranging from individuals to wide area networks for corporations with dozens of offices spread across the country.

Just a normal 9 to 5 job right KY LIBERTY!

As far as the Kumhos go for any one wanting to know I have them now, thought I would try them out and for 400 and some change for 255-70X16s mounted, balanced, they do great, no heavy mud yet but on the road a little singing but nothing more, they are the Road Venture ATs but still have an open center section. Time will tell. I think I like them more than the Destination ATs at this point in the game , have had them for a month and about 2700/2800 miles, yes I put some miles on during the weekends since the wife is 250 plus miles away working now

The rubbing did not affect the foglamps, just some slight rub on the access door at full lock, made a awfull noise when backing up at full lock but never did anything but put some rub marks on the fog lamp door.

As far a Kuhmo's go I can't say anything about them, never even seen them before so I have no opinion of them.

Your speedo will be off less then 5mph,all speedos are off anyway,245/75's might make it dead on.

so a 245/75 is pretty much the same no matter who makes it? is that a safe assumption?

I just emailed RL about a different matter, can you intercept that and answer those questions for me?

245/75's should be within .5" of each other from all the different manufactures(except procomp, they will be about 1.5" shorter then everyone else's).

Sorry can't intercept emails that are not sent to me.

Hmm...very interesting. I figured it had to do with computers. Bet it pays VERY well...which is what we are all aiming for so we can afford this "lifestyle" of ours...

Woody...good luck w/ the tire decisions.

Just mounted the wife's car....
wait that didn't come out right.

Just mounted Kuhmo 245/70r16's to the wife's pre-lowered 02 and NO RUBBING. LOVE THE TREAD, Agressive but not loud.

Thanks for all the input.

At 117.00 a pop can't beat em.

Sales guy tried to push more expensive ones but mechanics in the bays that did the install all said "Best Tire" most had them on their trucks/jeeps/cars.

Screw the sales guys. Techs with a discount still buy Kuhmos. I have had 3 sets on my XJ's and NEVER any issues.

Which Kumhos did you get Woody? I put a set of the Road Venture (their ATs) on about a month ago and like them a lot. Same thing here was looking at various ones and one of the tire guys brought another one out I asked him what he was running and he said come on back to the shop, 5 4WDs sitting out there that the guys in the back drove and all Kumhos

One of the Road Venture AT's, the more agressive one. They have two types of Road Venture AT's, same name different tread.

Like I said NEVER any issue with them (Knock on wood)
