I have been noticing a pinging similar to pre ignition knock when I come off highway speeds and turn onto another road and then accelerate normally. I have had it into 2 different dealers and neither one can hear it. Anyone else hear this noiise?

3.7 motor has 12,000 miles on it.

How long has it been going on and what gas are you using?

I'd switch gas stations first before trying anything else.

I have no idea if that's what it is or not, but I have noticed a noise similar to what it sounds like when you bring the clutch up too fast, but not nearly as aggressive. I only notice it when my windows are down, and the noise comes and goes pretty frequently for me...

It's hard to explain because it's hard to hear, but yes I believe I have the same noise but I also have 112k mi on mine...

I seem to have this too especially with the AC on. When I tried 93 octane it goes away but my mileage suffers.

You might look into having your timing belt replaced. Your dealership should do that for you under warranty.

No timing belt in a 3.7L V-6 in the KJ,it does have 3 timing chains.

True that. It must have been a part for the 2.4L that I saw. Thanks for correcting me. After all, I'm just an ignorant college n00b!

That's what i did and it solved my pinging, all depends on the station. I swear some of these stations must water it down to 47 octane. If i get quality gas i get no pinging. Junk gas pings and gets horrible gas mileage.

That's good information, thanks. Next time I fill up I'll go to a new station...

The 3.7L is known to break valve springs...easy to check if you take vavle cover off. I had three cracked on one side at 50,000 miles. I also had a bad wrist pin...that was a bit more of a pain to fix. Bought the whole piston/rod assembly and replaced it thru the bottom end...I did run a stone to scratch the cylinder walls. Fixed the problem.

I am going to try a different gas station as suggested. Maybe I am being too picky if only I can hear it. But at least if engine damage is done because of it, it is documented that I have been in twice for an engine noise.

Thanks for all the replies. Love this board. I have Gotten a lot of great info from this site.
