Hi All,

Can anyone tell me what the load rating is for the roof rails on the KJ (in kilo's - im an aussie)?

I want to put a basket on top of the rails to fit camping stuff in there?

If you have the Renegade rails, 29.5kg (65lbs.)
If you have the regular rails, 68kg (150lbs)

I think, if I'm wrong, well somebody will correct me, I hope.

You're right. I really like the rennie rails, but I had to dump them for the regular, and much beefier rails.

Is that right? I would have thought they other way around. Why did they make those that way?

I think it's just all the plastic on the renegade rack that is rated at 65 pounds. If you take all the plastic off, the rails underneath are just standard rails...right??

Nope, the newer silver rene rails are just hollow thin tubes.

Standard are smaller and thus less hollow, that is why they are stronger, but the plastic feet are still week and will break at the bar.

The old Rennie rails ('03) like mine were standard rails with plastic (tupperware  ) clipped to them. I believe if I remove my Tupperware the rating goes back up. The lower rating is due to the cheap clamps used to attach the basket to the stock rails.

Adam, on here (haven't heard from him in a while), cut through the inside sides of his Rennie basket and mounted standard (Thule I think) crossbars to his stock rails and thus was able to keep the basket but had a more solid base for mounting things.

Yeah, I was thinking about the Tupperware basket thing on the earlier Renegades. I have one of those and the plastic is rated at 65 pounds, but I also have the standard black rails underneath that should be rated at 150 pounds. I knew the newer Renegades had the bigger silver rails, but didn't realize they were only rated at 65 pounds. Thats stupid :?

I had been thinking about cutting the plastic enough to mount some Yakima mounts and cross bars. I wasn't sure how well it would look / work though.
