Bad news, waterpump went south at 25,800 miles.

Good news dealer replaced it under 7/70 engine warranty for $100.00 deductible, and they replaced the lower ball joints under recall.

I thought anything that failed under 36K miles was fixed under warranty free??

At least thats how I've had everything for me fixed....new cats, O2 sensors and spark plugs; new transfer case linkage....and hopefully that will be all...we'll see what the weekend presents itself after a small trip...

I agree with 2006KJSPORT4x4. That extended warentee takes over once the 3 year or 36,000 mile is done.

Are they saying that the 3 years was up?

What is your cars manufacture date? When did you buy it? should be the anniversary of your purchas date.

My waterpump failed at 46,000. It was covered under the 7/70 with $100 deductable. The part was only $56, and I don't trust the dealer's mechanics so I replace it myself. While I was in there I also did the serp belt, tensioner, upper and lower radiator hoses, thermostat, flushed the coolant and replaced it with new coolant.

I'm assuming since you had to use the 7/70 with only 25,000 miles that your truck is older than 36 months old. If not, you shouldn't have had to pay the deductable.

Wasn't that the easiest funnest water pump change you have ever done? Mine honestly took 15 minutes to change. Remove the belt, remove 8 bolts, switch pump and replace 8 bolts! Done! All the bolts are galvanized so they won't be stuck.
I was surprised to see a plastic impeller in these pumps. The only real failure point in the 3.7's water pump is the shaft seal and the bearing. The body seal is a silicone gasket, and the plastic impeller will last for ever too.

Well ain't that a bugger...did you even try to fight it perhaps with Chrysler Customer Service Direct...1-800-992-1997...once you get to a real voice ask for Sheena if you can, she hooked me up when the dealer tried to charge me for getting my new front diff in sooner and would not give me a rental. Got the part expedited and a rental car for the week until the repairs are done.

kills me that they get the 100 dollar deductible after the 36K/3 year deal...even for a waterpump where the repair should be well under $100 bucks....what a racket!!!!

You make it sound simple and different from when I changed mine in a 4 cyl Toyota engine. Don't you need to redo the timing? How did you remove the belt?

The W/P on the 3.7 is external and doesn't run off of the timing chains. It runs off of the serpentine belt only.

If it's really only 8 bolts that hold it on, the hardest part would be [for me] to remove the mechanical fan assembly to get more room to turn the wrenches.

I'm going to replace my 2005 3.7L waterpump next weekend. Just ordered a Bosch unit. I've read the above and it's nothing scary for sure but I noted that I DO NOT have a mechanical fan. Mine is electric. Is this something werid or what's going on. :?
