Post subject:  CB Antenna Question

I know some guys have installed CB antennas on the spare tire. Question is...how? Also, does this setup clear the garage door and what length antenna if so? Pictures would be great if you've got em.

Thanks in advance.

How bad does that interfere with the glass? From the pics it looks like you'd have to remove it everytime you get in the back.

I think I've seen a setup where the antenna mounts to the outside of the spare. Then you only have to remove it if you've got a flat.

I also bought a spring which raises it 2-3 inches it's kind of a pain but if you just pull the antenna back you can open the glass unless you don't mind it rubbin on the glass as the window goes up it works the spring is worth it to releave strain on the antenna from bending at highway speeds & bouncing around on the trail & you can move anywhere for low claerance

i use a quick disconnect and just remove it after wheeling since that is the only time i use it anyway. i have already had one stolen in boulder (when i used a spring mount)

I've a got a cheapy that I have to remove after I wheel each time. If I go all out with a nice antenna I want to be able to park in my garage with it on. The CB is permantly mounted so the antenna may as well be too. If anything I'd use the quick disco for putting on a bigger antenna when I go wheeling or on road trips.

There is a long lug nut (you cant see it), w/ a sleeve over it (thats the part you see) and a compression ring to pinch them together.

Thats Jason's Revo radial...

Good Street tire...not on my list for offroad though. Jason liked them but I think he's liking those MTR's better (although he's not using the KJ for commuting anymore)

Skyjump136 if you get that one...MAKE SURE you always have an allen key in your jeep (duct tape it to the jack or tire iron) If you don't have one you'll be hosed if you need to remove the spare.

I put a Wilson 3' antenna in place of my stock radio antenna. Trick mod. Write up in tech section and on my web site. Looks cool but not too busy for a DD'er.

found an adhesive antenna you stick on a window, put it on the top passenger side of the windshield i get pretty good reception with it but not quite as good as a firestick, those are great but this is cheap easy and effective, found mine in super wal-mart

you won't get much reception with that kind of setup. If you only really use the CB to communicate with the guy in front of you that's fine, but I find on a trail with 15-20 jeeps, it's easy for the leader to be over the hill and the back end not yet up it. Anything other than a good setup is then out of touch.

Just my experiences.
