On another board, a person asked if there was a shift kit available for the 42 rle. I know some guys on here have installed a shift kit. So I told the guy to come over here and check for it. But I don't remember who makes it. And was it only for the 45rfe or do they make one for the 42rle? I was thinking it was Transgo but I looked on their site and they only have one listed for the 45 rfe and the 5-45rfe in the diesel. Any help would be appreciated. If they do make them for the 42 it could be useful for guys with the newer TJs as well.

Transgo does have one for the 42rle, but its more like a correction kit. I got mine thru APS precision. They also don't list it on their site, i spoke to Wayne at APS directly to order the kit. I haven't installed mine, while the kit is fairly inexpensive, the big cost is professional install (for those who aren't comfortable working on their tranny).

Here's the longest thread about it, a search for transgo and 42rle will turn up a couple of more.

Any trans shop should be able to install the kits for you guys. I did mine myself but it was a mess with fluid everywhere.

Working on transmissions are messy and thats just part of it getting everything clean and spic & span is always the best. Dirt is always a trannys worst enemy before and after. But some one who braved the challenge deserves respect and kudos. Congatulation.
On a side note what does the Shift kit actually acheive , better performance? , better milage?, longer life?
I do seem to recall a rodder telling me that the kit tightens everything up and lengthens the life by takeing the slop out and creating better clutch life???
