PM me with your email and I will email you the info on this course.
This one was just one day but they offer other couses too. Your BC
could send a few guys for train-the-trainer type stuff.

It is not an army run school. Most of their courses are designed for the
spec ops type guys. I do know that their schools are pricey so it would be
hard to send more than a few.

Biggest hill in Florida? Not hardly. You can't tell from this picture but when you are at the bottom you have to put your chest on the steering wheel to see the top. This is at Hardrock Off Road Park in Ocala. As you can see, they also have natural, not trucked in, rocks.

I was just making a joke about Florida's overall lack of terrain features.
And I really want to try Hard Rock some time. I hear it's great!

I usually call Florida "The Big Sand Bar"! It's a lot of fun. There is one hill that I haven't tried yet. It looks like if your not careful you might flip backwards down it. If you want some company on it let me know.

On second look I see numbers on the rear winders, I think I can make out a #5.

I sure hope that when they were recovering, they were winching them out.
You do know that there are 3 reasons that you NEVER EVER pull someone out using reverse?
1: Reverse is the weakest gear in the transmission.
2: The driveshaft angles get worse as the torque increases when going backwards. (The angles get less as you pull going forward).
3: The teeth on the ring gear(s) are “C” shaped, and in the forward direction, torque or pressure is applied as to straighten the tooth. Very strong. (Just like a dam on a river). When you go backwards, you put pressure on the inside of the tooth and it will break (don’t ask how I know this)…

I've never heard of any of that.

huh? i thought that with using reverse you get the most power or torque or something

Kinda defeats the purpose of using a WINCH if your just going to put it in
reverse and drive it out. Thats what tow straps and snatch ropes are for.

Those big trucks weighed 11K lbs each. The winch was rated for 12K. The
blue truck was chocked in place and two swing blocks had to be added to
pull the white one out of the sand.

You can check it out for yourself on the drive shaft angles. Hook up to something that won’t move (light pole in Safeway parking lot, etc.). Have your buddy drive for you. Put it in 1st gear and notice the rear axel pinion angle. As the wheels start to turn to go forward, your rear leaf springs will start to wrap-up, the drive shaft will go up on the pinion, making the angle on the U-joints less or straight. Now do the same only in reverse. Watch the rear pinion go down making an increasing angle on the U-joints. If it flex’s enough, you will get to watch it break!

In the transmission (manuals) you’ll notice that reverse is a narrow straight-cut gear. (Only 2 or 3 teeth are engaged at a time. Very weak). Now look at all your forward gears and you’ll see that they are much wider and are helical-cut (Many teeth engaged all the time). Automatics have a narrower reverse also.

The ring gear speaks for itself.

If you’re going to use a “Snatch Strap,” the person doing the pulling should ALWAYS be going forward. As far as the person getting snatched, well you just have work with what you have depending on where and how you’re stuck.

just so not to confuse the innocent, KJs do not have rear leaf springs. Didnt want someone running out trying to find theirs and thinking they had fell off or something.
