Okay, lets start the discussion. I am looking at the possibilitiy of a hydraulic vs. electric winch in my bull bar. Question #1: will a mile marker 9,000 Hydro fit in an ARB bull bar for 05-07 kj's Question #2: Will the staock power steering pump power said winch? Question #3: Has anybody tried this? Question #4: If answer to #3 is no, Why Not? I like the idea of not being married to a battery and over taxing the electrical system. Am I barking up a tree that does not or cannot exist? |

Well on the flip side of that you are then married to a running engine. IMO: Like everyone, I want a wench, in reality I know I don't have much use for it, but the few times that I was in a position where I or someone I was with needed a wench it was a situation where running my engine may have not been a good idea. IMO I'm more likely to need a wench when I cant have my engine running. |

the awnser to you question is no. The liberty pump may be able to take the force and pressure that the winch would need but the line would not. Druing out testing phase for the winches we put on the Oshkosh truch Alpha MRAP(Mine resistant assult protected) we were blowing hoses left and right. Now i understand that the winches we were using we all rated for 20 to 30 thousand pounds or more but its the same principle for smaller winches. Still ive never tried a hydro winch that didnt have an entire kit with it so i really cant say. My best guess is that it wont work unless you change out all the line for high pressure lines which can get expensive. |
