Alright, this can be a long story, and I have a tendency to be long winded, but here goes: First the background info: 1) I have front tow hooks 2) I have a 20K pound tow strap in my trunk 3) I have a CB 4) I was on my way to Berea Kentucky for work after stopping in Pittsburgh Pa. .... so after 450 miles of driving I finally crossed into Kentucky on Highway 64, westbound when I passed a flashing "safe patrol" truck that appeared to be stuck in the mud in the median of the highway. I called out on channel 19 on my CB that I have a tow strap and tow hooks, and if he's stuck does he need a pull, and to my suprise, I got an answer, so I turned around at the next exit and drove back to the guy's truck. I cut thru the median in 4-low and pulled up along side his truck..... a ford 4x4 F-450 (if i'm not mistaken), the thing was huge and buried up to it's axles. He got out of his truck and introduced himself as mike, but was looking at my jeep as if I won't be able to budge him Anyway, I hooked my strap to a tow point on his front bumper, and to my tow hook and proceeded to pull him out in reverse (in 4-low). He counldn't believe that I had managed to pull him out, and he was very grateful. He was laughing at the irony that he was supposed to help me, and not the other way around. He also commented that he was suprised that I didn't get stuck in the muck when cutting across the median. Just figured that I would share my story about my libby as an inspiration to anyone who sees someone stuck on the side of the road. Here are a few pictures of the vehicles after the pull: The guy in the yellow vest is mike, and the guy in the black shirt is my co-worker who was looking out for traffic while I reversed down the freeway.

good job!!! makes you feel good inside when you help someone and they actually appreciate it. \ i did that last winter. driving down a 35mph road and see a cars rear bumper sticking halfway into the road, and their front end down in a ditch on top of a mailbox. so i pull right over and ask if they need help and that i have a tow strap. their eyes lit up and are like "REALLY?!" so im getting into position to pull them out, about to open my tailgate to get my 30k procomp towstrap, and a cop pulls up. says he can get a towtruck, im like nah i can get em out, so hes like "ok", he blocks traffic bothways, i get the slack out of the strap and 1-2-3 they are out, no tire slippage at all, pulled her out like it was nothing. people in the shopping stores across the street were watching, as well as the cars in traffic |

Very nice BUT did you ever think that one little jester could have helped in different ways. if you had just kept going while he was stuck. Woman having baby ran out of gas, he is stuck he cant help. Old man changing flat gets hit by semi did not see him. no help , no truck with lights flashing. Remember the movie pay it forward. just a though |

My guess is you didn't get stuck because the libby is (relatively) lighter than an F450... Weight doesn't help you at all through stuff like that.. |

yeah i tried to do the same thing once. I guess in wisconsin its illigal to pull someone out of the ditch. i almost got a ticket out of being a good person. That never stops me though. In about july some kids must have been driving mommy's grand prix a bit to fast and took the corner of the road that my apt is on way to sharp. the hit the curb, a huge stone sign and tore both of the front wheels off and one of the back wheels, not to mentionall the rest of the damage. The ended up bouncing into road blocking all traffic so i threw on the chain and dragged the car about 50ft to the side of the road. I was surprised and so were they that my "small truck" could pull about 3k lbs of dead weight like it was nothing |

Last winter we had 18" of snow fall in an hour....(alot for this part of Ok) a semi got snow blinded and hit the median, (I told the story on her then aswell) I figured i would offer him a ride he asked me to pull him out. I was very doubtful but figured i would at least give him a jerk just to say i tried....Well long story short my lil libby pulled him out. I asked him if he was empty he said no grossing 38000lbs. My wife didnt pick on the libby for a few days. I had never wanted a digi cam so bad in my life that night. |
