Ok, Nick sent me this pic a while back and I'm considering doing something like this with my Renny .. at least until Rock Lizard comes out his bumper. Anyone have any thoughts on this? Anyone have any functional reasons that it would be a bad idea? Is this someone's KJ from this site?

Go for it! I always wanted to do that but ended up w/ the All J bumper.
I think that is how Jeep shoulda designed the bumper in the first place.
I know it is a L.O.S.T. member, think it is USAFCOP's Jeep?

Just gotta relocate or SC the fog lights.

If Rock Lizard's bumper is immenent I'd wait and that way you'd have you stick bumper just in case you seel the vehicle.

Hoss,

With the different fronts on the 05's Image I don't know how that will turn out. Just something to keep in mind.

I love that look. I have looked at my '05 and considered removing (when the time comes) everything from the turn signals down, and just leaving the narrower rectangular center part of the bumper. On the pic above, I would leave the two tube looking sections, the tow-hook area, and the chrome strip at the bottom. In the pic, you can see the cut line I am talking about. It angles up and out from the outside edge of the chrome strip. I would remove the large pushed out area at each end. It all depends on what is under there, looks-wise. I would then mount cj-style marker lights in the grill slots where the optional fog lights go in a non-renny grille, proabably round LED lights.

That does look nice. When you do it post up some how-to pics, may motivate me to do it too.

I gotta get ride of my fog lights, but I got my hellas so no big deal.

I'm thinking of the same thing actually but need to deal with the air dam as well.

I'm hoping the extended CV joints will allow me to put some spacers in the front and back to get a couple more inches of clearance, even during stuffing.

I'm waiting for Rock Lizzard's bumper (unless All J wants to share their bumper with the rest of us).

Oh, and by the way, my front bumper, fender flares and lots of parts are ALL cracked up. But I think the unfinished look of the chopped KJ is worse. Needs a bumper.

speaking of that Rock Lizzard thread, anyone happen to cut and paste it here? I went to do it today and it's missing. Entire 4x4 and General sections are gone.

Incommando, those are the exact lines I was thinking about following. Initial inspections show nothing inside of those areas, but I'll have to do a more thorough check before pulling out the saws-all. I think it looks pretty sweet, and if I end up not liking it then I just have to wait for Rock Lizard (or someone else) to come out with an aftermarket I like.. If worse comes to worse I'll go with the ARB (though I'd then have to swap out my springs for heavier ones).

Adam, I shot Rock Lizard an email this morning informing him of our move to this new site and asked him to start a new thread to keep us updated in.. I haven't heard back from him yet. I wish I would have copied that thread over, but the old ones dissapeared alot faster than I expected.. I thought we'd have at least a week to copy stuff over.

Also, does anyone have any clue what I could use to close up the plastic after cutting it up?

Before doing anything. Take that picture to your inspection station/state police an see if that mod will pass PA inspection. That could be a costly mistact if it does not.

That looks sweet! JJ, if you still want to do that to a bumper, I'll trade you. You know, since you're a friend and all. :D

Ken, what would make you suspect that it might not pass? There's no structural changes, strictly plastic trimming. The true structural bumper is left unchanged.

Mmm...now you've got me thinking about triming my front bumper, then Rhino-lining the front and rear...

Would give my white Limited a unique look. :D

Adam,
your wife is going to hate me!..... I think the chop looks good. What does she think about it???

If you do it, you'll need a universal 2qt. coolant overflow bottle from Advance auto parts to use for your widow washer fluid. $10.00 and mounts on the passenger fender. Just need to plug the 2 holes and cut holes for the pump and sensor, then add about 18" of wire. Took me roughly an hour to do it.

I think a dremel type tool with a saw blade would make the cuts cleaner. I have one if you want to borrow it.

Nope not mine....

Mine are cut via trail/rock smashing

TX Wally did that to his bumper prior to the TR bumper install after he rolled it a few years back, It worked good for him.

I say go for it!!! I would, but do not feel like relocating the fog lights... That and hopefully I will be able to get my bumpers built finally!!! Cross thy fingers!

Nick, she likes the look, but freaks out everytime I start cutting stuff on the KJ... I dunno why, I"m perfectly capable of handling sharp objects! Really I am! Why are you looking at my finger?? That was from a Sledge Hammer, totally different!
