Post subject: | Head Rest Question |
I have heard a lot of people say, on here, that the head rest comes off so the back seat will go down flat. My 2005 manual doesn't say anything about that. Not that I have found at least. How does it come off? Terry |

Pull the head rest up as far as it goes...then there is a little push button on the one of the posts that you push in to release the headrest. Not the bigger one that you push to put the headrest down. |

Also, those little push buttons can be loose and after you remove the headrest, they will come out still attached to the metal pole. Pretty normal, just don't loose them. |

Ok, thanks I'll give it a try. Maybe I was trying it wrong. Terry |

When you see the larger button, the smaller push button can be easy to miss. |

The release latch is the smaller of the two buttons on the plastic "base" points for the headrests. I circled it in green. Just pull the headrest all the way up, depress this button, the pull up again. Should pop right out. ![]() Sorry about the pict quality, but hopefully you get the idea. |

Has anyone removed the inside tab? I hate that I need to push 2 tabs to pull it out. I want to be able to push one tab and pull the thing out with my other hand. I need to push both tabs and then sort of push up with my fingers at the same time. It's a pain and I don't know any other car that does it this way. I would think taking off the smaller (inside i think) tab would work. BUT I don't want to cause a rattle if it's missing. Someone else try it for me. ![]() |

![]() Sorry about the pict quality, but hopefully you get the idea. My 2004 doesnt have the lip on the button you circled in green. Its recessed and is kinda hard to spot/push. I always take the head rests off when I put the seats down. Gives the driver and passenger alot more room upfront. |

![]() Terry Yes, that helps a heck of a lot. This whole time, I thought you needed to press both, which is hard to do while pulling up on the headrest (unless you have a third arm). I can do it with my knee if I'm situated right ![]() |

Hmmm... Interesting bit of info. I never could figure out why one side comes out and one side doesn't ! I'm righty so when I go in the left side door and use my right hand I get the correct button and the h/r pops out. When I go in the other side I hit the adjuster button because it's closer the way I reach in and not the release button! I never realized there were actually 2 diff buttons! ![]() |

Dang - I learn so much reading these forums. Since the kids are grown and gone and it's just me and oldkat, and I have no need of back seats anyway - the headrests will come off, back seats down, carpet covered with some kind of blanket, and "voila" - more room for crap! Could never do that before and have my driver seat where I wanted it to accomodate my rather long legs. Only had this KJ less than a month, so I'm still getting comfortable with it. |
