Post subject:  someone backed into me today...

well I was just sitting in my school parking lot today warming up the jeep when i feel a thud from the back.... turns out a friend with a trans am backed into the side of my rear bumper on the rounded part.
it pushed in the cap on the side of my bumper and only scratched his brake light.
He wants to pay for it out of pocket.

Any idea where i can get a replacement bumper cover painted for the cheapest, i think i can put it on myself

i will try to get some pics up soon

thanks
-matt

I know it's fairly expensive for the part to begin with. I think you're talking 250-300.00 plus possibly shipping it, then tack on at least 100.00 more for a paint job. Could always have it sprayed at Maaco but it may or may not be a good paint job. You don't want to skimp on paint only to be disappointed later, and have no record of it on your insurance. It's a tough call.

Agreed!!

All I can say is that the only reason I usually don't care about the cost of OEM product is because I never have to pay for it. Thats why I pay for insurance. After being smashed twice by other drivers, I'm just glad that I never had to pay myself for this stuff. It's outrageous. One little part costs more than your deductible! You'd have to file a claim for every single issue.

Try talking with a couple different body shops Matt, and post what they say. They might be able to get you a deal.

Just crawl under your kj and pop the dent out. Not a big deal. If the paint is marred then get some Meguiars Scratch-x and polish them out. If the paint is damaged, get a body shop to touch it up.

No use in wasting money on a new cap.

Try getting a front bumber for the older Grands, unpainted where about $700 for the front.$200-$400 for a bumber is pretty cheap.

If someone backed into my car and damaged it, I wouldn't just cover up their mistake and have my car look like crap if the plastic was messed up. Their fault, their dime.

this is a "Silverstone" bumper cover, what ever the hell that is. Says it is 80.00 plus shipping. Worth a phone call. Diagram illustrates the whole bumper cover.

Good luck.

True, Ive had someone back onto my Jeep and you can bet they paid for it, but I would of saved the time and money if I could of just popped the dent out.

Agreed, if it was my fault and it was a minor blemish, I would just do what ya said.
