Post subject:  Are my shocks blown?

The past week or so my rear right shock is making noises. I don't even know how to explain it but it almost sounds like the shaft is rubbing the casing as it compresses. These are the shocks from RRO. Would this be the same case as the Rusty's shocks and it's just not fitting right or is it blown? I'm thinking it may be going bad since I've had the lift on for about 6 months now and I'm just now starting to hear it. I just hope I'm wrong.

On a lighter note;
I'm FINALLY getting my new tires. I've had this lift for 6 months and these little bitty tires are driving me crazy!

Push down on the back of the Jeep (the corner of the suspect shock)

If it bounces uncontrollablly, there is no shock there.

If you live in an area with no snow, you can crawl under your Jeep and look for fluid around the shock.

We did have a lot of snow and ice this last weekend and it's been cold for a while but this all started before the snow. I'll check it out when I go to lunch though.

Make sure you push on the side you suspect is blown... Pushing on the whole back side will not giveyou an indication of the missing dampner control

If you are nervous though, you can always just pick up a new set of shocks for Christmas (or what ever holiday you celebrate) and install them next week. :)

I could but between my new tires, new 24" monitor, and my new 90" r/c airplane that my wife "bought" me for Christmas, I might not have a place to sleep if I try to sneak in shocks too!

Yeah, I know the feeling... I'm pretty much in the same boat right now as far as the spending goes.

Which shocks did you get from RRO? I've been running the Doetsch Tech 9000 series that I got with my original "budget" lift for 17 months and they're still as stiff as the day I put them on. Those are the ONLY thing I've gotten from them that I CAN'T complain about!

It's their shocks, I think they're called "Hydro"...

oh. Sorry. :( Don't know of too many people running them. Like everyone else suggests. Go bounce on the bumper and see if it keeps bouncing when you let go.

If they are blown you may also see fluid leaking out of them.....

I have the same issue with my Rancho's ONLY during winter when the temp drops I wouldn't worry about it but try the push down test anyways

raceinfan, I thought I had the same issues with my Ranchos , 2 weeks ago I went under the jeep and used spray silicone on all the moving parts in the rear and now it's been very quiet , I tend to belive it was the bushings in the trailing arms causing all the noise..

Alright no extra bounce but I can hear it when I bounce it. It's just one side and almost sounds like it's sucking air.

Bushings gone bad?

Man, that wasn't the answer I was hoping for...

Are the 132L's still available through All J's? I haven't tried to contact them but the last update says they are out of stock but that was back in Oct.

Looks like you get to be the one to find out. Haven't read of anyone else getting them recently.
