I'm just wondering what your take on dust boots is. Obviously manufacturers include them with the shocks so I assume they think they're a good idea. But I've heard some people say all they do is trap junk inside instead of keeping it out. My Skyjackers lasted just under 30,000 miles with them on so if that had anything to do with the short life span I don't want to make the same mistake with my new Ranchos...thoughts?

No...

Most shock mackers would love to lose the shock boots but folks keep asking for them. They really dont have a lot of fuction on todays shocks. They might keep some muck off the rod but not really needed. Hope that helps. later...Clint

So basically...doesn't matter either way? I like the flash of color in the wheel well and they're alread on so maybe I'll just leave em.

Boots do keep a lot of dirt off the stanchions, but that's it. It's the seals that keep the dirt out of the internals of the shock. If something gets stuck inside the boot, it can scratch the stanchion, creating a groove allowing dirt to enter the internals, and fluid to leak out (doesn't happen to often). It's all personal preference. The trend in mountain biking right now is no boots.

Hold water? Your boots are upside down.
