P0153 Code- Help

Post subject:  P0153 Code- Help
On my way home from work today my check engine light came on. When I got home I pulled the code and got a P0153. I found this:

P0153 Heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) 1, bank 2 – slow response Heating inoperative, wiring, HO2S Oxygen sensor (O2S) 1, bank 2 – slow response Wiring, O2S

but I am not sure what it means or what I should do. Any suggestions?

It's either a faulty oxygen sensor or the wires going to it are possibly broken or frayed, It's the sensor located downsteam on the drivers side, You can see it by looking under the vehicle just under the drivers seat..

I just replaced my left downstream sensor (1/2) wire came out of the holder and rubbed on the driveshaft causing it to short out, easy to get to if its the (1/2 ) about right under your foot when driving, cost me 36 bucks to replace.

Do you have any pictures to help me locate? Is this something a parts store would carry or do I have to get it from the dealer? How easy is it to replace?

parts stores have them Napa did not close by here though said they would have to order, I have a PARTS PLUS store near by and they had it real cheap. Some places carry a generic one that you have to cut your old plug off and rewire, get one with the stock type connector, easy to replace, spray it good with WD 40 or something and it just unscrews off

OH and if you look under the Jeep drivers side, up on the top of the exhaust pipe coming down from the drivers side and crossing over to the pass. side its right there in front of the cross member

No need to do right away, The upstream 02 sensor does most of the work anyway.. Yep, thats the sensor.

Great, Thanks for all of the help. One more dumb question: How do you determine that it is the sensor on the drivers side? Is it the bank 2 that tells which one?

Bank 2 means downstream, If it were 2 - 2 it would be the pass. side downstream, If it were a 1 -1 or 2 -1 it would be at the exhaust manifold either side ( upstream ).

So 1-2 is downstream,driverside correct? I called a couple of autoparts stores and they both told to me it was passenger side and they said there were two sensors that needed to be replaced. Neither sounded too sure about it. I think I trust the people on this board who have dealt with the problem and are not just trying to sell parts.

from the book; The (1/2) is the left downstream sensor and is located in the left exhaust downpipe just after the mini - catalytic convertor and before the main convertor

So yes it is the one on the drivers side right under your feet!
No you do not have to replace both, like I said I just replaced mine about a 1000 miles ago now and no problems at all in replacing one. What kind of price are you being charged for one? Most I called about were like 60 to 80 but like I said I gotthat one for 36

So far I have found it for $57 & $59. I am going to check around tomorrow to try to find it cheaper. Thanks again for all the help guys!

I would stray away from wd-40. it will smoke up as it burns off. big stink. Get an O2 wrench from napa and romove the sensor, put a new one in but use some anti seize on the threads, high temp stuff.

WD 40 burns off in no time, I never even noticed it... and you dont need a special wrench to get it off, waste of money.
